Tuesday Tidbits… Crochet Christmas Countdown!

.

The countdown is clicking away!!  Christmas is two weeks from tomorrow...  Are you ready??  Weather you are Professional Crocheter or a Hobbyist, this is the busy season for all of us!!

.

christmas count

.

Here are a few helpful tips I use to stay on track~

.

* Make a list… (And check it twice): It’s not to late to jot  down your ideas and projects you want to finish before Christmas!  Once your list is done,  be realistic!  If you can’t accomplish it all, don’t feel bad~ Just cross off what you can’t finish, maybe write  a card with an IOU…

.

* If making multiples of the same project, I like to time myself (Yes, I know its is a little OCD), Then I will know how long it will take to finish the batch!

.

* When making larger projects like Afghans and shawls… See how long it takes you to complete a row…  Count how many rows it will take to complete the entire project… Divide the total rows  up by how many days you have to complete your project~ This process will help keep you on track!

.

* Stash busting… This time of year I love to use up my yarn stash… It keeps my costs down and makes room for the newest yarns coming out in the new year!

.

* Grab all the tools you will be needing over the next couple weeks… Hooks, Scissors, Yarn Needles, Buttons and any other goodies you will need…  Find a container they will all fit in and keep it next to your crochet spot… This way when your done for the evening you can put it all away and it will be waiting for you  the next time you sit down to get to work… No more searching for that silly yarn needle!

.

* Keep your yarn organized by color, weight and fiber…  By doing this you will be able to find what you need when you need it!

.

Happy Crocheting!  Elena

Traveling Crochet….

Yesterday we headed out on our 2 1/2 hour journey through the mountain roads to our daughters Varsity Volleyball Game… Oh what fun!!!  Hmmm… I needed a project to take for the road trip… I have been making so many Amazing Grace Hats… I needed something new!!!  I purchased some self striping yarn recently and wanted to use it… so this is what I started…

Love the color changes…

.

I used DROPS delight 13, it’s a fingering weight wool mix… I used a G Hook in a Single Crochet Chevron pattern… This will be 6″ wide and the length still to be determined… I think it will take 2-3 balls of this gorgeous yarn.. I will update when it is finished.. The yarn is  $4.89 US per skein and they do flat rate shipping… so I ordered several skeins… Love it…

.

Also using this yarn… From last week’s 2nd place Fan Favorite Slouch Beanie... If you remember my last post.. My 17-year-old wanted this hat… This inspired me to order this yarn originally and make it… Here is a picture of the finished hat using DROPS Delight 10…

The Patriotic Owl and His Cute Friend!

.

I don’t want to bore you with the same projects back to back,,, But,,, Yesterday after I dropped off the Owl Hat at Alpine Original,,, Debbie (My good friend and Owner) messaged me to let me know… It sold as soon as she put it up on the display… We had been talking about what else I should try to whip up for my display before Friday’s Artwalk,,, I had a few ideas of some easy, cute projects that would fill in the spaces… Maybe another pair of Skimmer Slippers,,, Some Patriotic Potholders,,,

.

Well,,,With the news of the Owl Hat selling right off the bat,,, The answer was easy… So with my stash of yarn and my favorite hook,,, I whipped up two more Owl Hats last night!  I couldn’t resist making a patriotic one!  If you like this hat,,, The pattern is available at Repeat Crafter Me.  While your are there… Check out all of her patterns!
