Designer Camo Bag

Designer Camo Bag

The Designer Camo Bag is a Fun, Fashionable & Free Crochet Pattern or available as a paid PDF~! It is a large tote style bag/purse that has a flat bottom and fun bobbles to make it even more unique!

This Designer Camo Bag measures 19″ wide x 14″ tall, with a flat bottom base of 3 1/2″ x 13 1/2″ and I have inserted a plastic mesh in the bottom to make it more sturdy. The handles are 19″ x 1 1/2″ long each.


Bobbles

Fun bobbles decorate the front and an easy button closure keep your bag nice and tidy!

Supplies:

Yarn – Worsted Weight Yarn 375 yards each color: Color A – Red Heart Super Saver in Coffee & Color B – Red Heart Super Saver in Camo

Hook – G or hook to meet gauge

Scissors, Yarn Needle, Place Markers and optional supplies – Button and Beads

Plastic Mesh for the bottom of the bag is optional, but makes it really great! Click here to purchase on Amazon


Gauge:

If you would like your bag to measure the approximate size as mine – 2″ x 2″ SC 8 rows x 8 sts

Your tension and the yarn you choose may make your project slightly different


Stitches: US Terms

  • St – Stitch
  • Ch – Chain
  • Sp – Space
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Hdc – Half Double Crochet
  • Fpsc – Front Post Single Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochete
  • Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet
  • Bpdc – Back Post Double Crochet
  • Blsc – Back Loop Single Crochet
  • Rev Sc – Reverse Single Crochet
  • YO – Yarn Over
  • FO – Finish Off
  • Bean Stitch: Insert hook in st, yo, pull up loop, *yo, insert hook in same st, pull up loop*, repeat *to* 1 more time, yo, draw yarn thru all 6 loops on hook, ch 1.

*Tip – Sometime you will turn and no turning, watch directions.

Bottom of bag

Ch 13

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 12 sc

Row 2-52: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 12 sc

Working around the bottom

Row 53: Sc 2 more sts in same as last st(corner), sc 50 sts evenly down the row side, 3 sc(corner) in 1st st of bottom row(row 1), sc in next 10 sts, 3 sc(corner) in last st of row 1, evenly sc 50 sts up row side, 2 sc in 1st st of row 52(to complete corner), join with sl st to beginning sc. = 132 sc

Sides of Bag

Round 1: Ch 1, bpsc around each st, join with sl st to beginning st. = 132 bpsc

Round 2: Ch 1: fpsc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 132 fpsc

Round 3-4: Ch 1, sc around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 132 sc

Round 5: Ch 1, *bean st(see directions in stitch list above) in st, sk st*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to top of bean st. = 66 bean sts

Round 6-8: Ch 1, turn, *bean st in ch sp*, repeat *to* in each ch sp around, join with sl st to beginning. = 66 bean sts

Round 9(this is now your right side of the project): Ch 1, turn, sc in top of each bean st and ea ch sp, join with sl st to beginning st. = 132 sc

Join Color B in any stitch with right side facing

Round 10: Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), dc in each st around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 132 dc

Round 11: Ch 3, *bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st*, repeat *to* around, join with a fp sl st (around from back to front) around the beginning ch 3. = 66 bpdc 66 fpdc

Round 12: Ch 3, *fpdc around next st, bpdc around next st*, repeat *to* around, join with fp sl st around beginning ch 3. 66 bpdc 66 fpdc

Rounds 13-31: Repeat rounds 11 & 12

Join Color A in any bl st

Round 32: Blsc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 132 blsc

Round 33 -34: Repeat rounds 5 & 6 of the bag sides(bean sts)

Round 35: Ch 1, sl st in each st/sp around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 132 sl st

Round 36: Ch 1, blsc in each st around, AND evenly decrease blsc(approx every 11 sts) for a total of 10 decreases, join with sl st to beginning st. = 122 blsc

Round 37: Ch 1, sc in each st around AND evenly decrease sc 8 times(approx every 11 sts), join with sl st to beginning st. = 114 sc

FO

Now you will use 2 strands of yarn, I used 1 of A and 1 of B

Fold your tote in half front to back, place a st marker on each side of round 37 to mark side centers(you should have 56 sts between each marker)

Join your 2 strands of yarn in 1st st to the left of a marker

Round 38: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 114 sc

Move your marker up as you go

Round 39: Ch 1 sc in 20 sts, ch 60, sk next 17 sts, sc in next 40 sts(be careful not to twist the ch), ch 60, sk 17 sts, sc in last 20 sts, join with sl st to beginning st. = 2-60 chs, 80 sc

Your chs should be both centered and match front and back

Round 40: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 200 sc

Round 41: Ch 1, sc in 18 sts, sk 3 sts(base of the handle), sc in next 58 sts, sk 3 sts, sc in next 36 sts, sk 3 sts, sc in next 58 sts, sk 3 sts, sc in last 18 sts, join with sl st to beginning st. = 188 sc

Round 42: Ch 1, sc in 16 sts, sk 3 sts(base of the handle), sc in next 56 sts, sk 3 sts, sc in next 32 sts, sk 3 sts, sc in next 56 sts, sk 3 sts, sc in last 16 sts, join with sl st to beginning st. = 176

Join 1 Strand of Color B in any st of the inside of handle

Round 43: Rev sc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning st, Repeat this on the other h42andle.

Join 1 Strand of Color A in any st of the outside of your handle

Round 44: Rev Sc around the entire top of bag and handles, join with sl st to beginning st.

Finishing your bag options

For a nicer bag, you can sew plastic mesh into the bottom of your bag.

  • 1st – Turn bag inside out
  • 2nd – Cut plastic mesh to fit the bottom of bag
  • 3rd – Sew plastic mesh in place(to the 1 sc round of round 1 sides(blsc)

Closure and Bobbles

If you would like to make a nice closure for your bag

  • 1 – Using Color A, Make a ch 35 and FO
  • 2 – On one side of the bag between handles on the right side facing, evenly attach the chain at round 37 spaced 4 sts apart
  • 3 – On the opposite side of the bag, center and secure a large button
  • 4 – To close bag, bring the looped chain over the top and around the button
Closure

The Bobbles

Thread your choice of beads/bobbles onto your yarn and tie them around the button back to secure. Make as many as you like in any lengths.
