My Favorite Yarn Tote… Free Crochet Pattern


My Favorite Yarn Tote… Free Crochet Pattern!!! This is a super fun and very useful project. You can use this as your project bag, fitting up to 6 extra large yarn skeins, or 4 skeins plus your project! It has 2 small holes on each side to thread your different yarn colors through to keep you project running smoothly! This is also a great everyday tote, it is sturdy and easy to carry your groceries, extra goodies for a trip or even for the beach! This uses the Waffle Stitch Technique which is easy to master!

My Favorite Yarn Tote

Materials:

Yarn: 2 – 5 oz Red Heart Super Saver in Aran Fleck 520 yards total

Hook: G

Stitch Markers

Stitches:

  • Ch – Chain
  • St – Stitch
  • Sp – Space
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Hdc – Half Double Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • FP – Front Post
  • Bl – Back Loop
  • Reverse Single Crochet
  • RS – Right Side
  • Decrease( work your stitch over 2 stitches instead of one inserting your hook in each of the 2 indicated pulling up a loop and finishing your stitch)

Size:

11″ tall x 14″ across (32″ around)

My Favorite Yarn Tote... Free Crochet Pattern

Instructions:

Bottom Base: You will be holding 2 strands together

Row 1: Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 12 sc

Row 2-44: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 12 sc

*You now will work in the round working your way around the 4 sides of your base.

*Make sure to keep moving your markers for the corners, this will assure you lines stay straight in the waffle stitch pattern

Round 45: Make 2 more sc in the same stitch you just made in row 44(1st corner), evenly sc 42 sts across the side rows, 3 sc in the 1st st of row 1(2nd corner), sc in next 10 sts, 3 sc in the next st(3rd corner), evenly sc 42 sts across the side rows, 3 sc in the 1st st of row 44(4th corner), sc in next 10 sts, sl st in next st(last st of row 44 to complete the round), place marker in each corner st. = 116 sc

Round 46: Ch 1, fpsc in each ch around, moving the markers to keep your corner stitches identified. = 116 fpsc (you will not put extra stitches in the corners)

Round 47-50: Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st and each stitch around, continue to move your markers to identify your corners.= 116 hdc. Finish off at the end of round 50

With RS facing, join 1 strand of yarn in the righthand corner st on the short end.

Round 51: Ch 1, blsc in st, *blsc in next 5 sts, decrease blsc over next 2 sts, blsc in next 5 sts*, Blsc in corner st, blsc in next 44 sts, blsc in next corner st, Repeat *to* once, blsc in corner st, blsc in next 44 sts, Join with sl st around the post of first blsc(this sets up your waffle stitch). = 114 blsc.

Round 52: Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), *bldc in next 2 sts, fpdc around next st*, repeat *to* around(your corner sts should always be a fpdc), ending with 2 bldc, join with sl st around beginning ch 3(joining around this st will make this stay in the waffle st pattern)= 38 fpdc & 76 bldc

Round 53: Ch 3, turn, *fpdc in next 2 sts, dc in next st*, repeat *to* around ending with last 2 fpdc, join with sl st around the beginning ch 3. = 76 fpdc & 38 dc

Round 54: Ch 3, turn, *dc in next 2 sts, fpdc around next st*, repeat *to* around ending with last 2 dc, join with st st around the beginning ch 3. = 76 dc & 38 fpdc

Rounds 55-72: Repeat rounds 53 & 54

Round 73: Ch 1, turn fpsc in st, *sc in next 2 sts, fpsc around next st*, repeat *to* around ending with sc in 2 sts, join with st st around the beginning sc. = 76 sc & 38 fpsc

You will now pick back up a second strand holding 2 strands together

Round 74-75: Ch 2(counts as hdc), turn, hdc in each st around, join with sl st. = 114 hdc

Round 76: Ch 1, turn, *hdc in 11 sts, hdc in corner st, hdc in next 9 sts, hdc decrease over next 2 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, hdc decrease over next 2 sts, hdc in nex 9 sts, hdc decrease over next 2 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, hdc in next corner st*, repeat *to* once more, join with sl st. = 108 hdc

Round 77: Ch 1(do not turn), *sc in 2 sts, ch 2, sk 2, sc in 3 sts, ch 2, sk 2, sc in 2 sts, sc in corner st, sc in next 15 sts, ch 15, sk 11, sc in next 15, sc in corner st*, repeat *to* once more, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 2 ch15, 4 ch2 and 78 sc

Round 78: Ch 1, turn, sc across to ch 15 sp, *15 sc in ch 15sp, sc around to ch 2 sp, 2 sc in ch 2sp, sc in next 3, 2 sc in next ch 2sp*, sc around to next ch 15sp, repeat *to*, sc to corner st and join to beginning sc. = 116 sc

Round 79: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 116 sc

Round 80: Ch 1, reverse sc around, join with sl st and finish off.

Steam Block to shape. You can put a small box inside to hold the shape and steam. Let dry/cool completely

That’s it, you now have completed My Favorite Yarn Tote! I hope you love it and get a lot of use. If you are making it just as a tote, you can skip the small holes in the sides for yarn.
