2021 Crochet with Me!!! Mystery Winter Afghan CAL… Week 8!

2021 Crochet with Me!!! Mystery Winter Afghan CAL… Week 8!

Are you ready to start Week 8 of the 8th Annual 2021 Crochet with Me!!! Mystery Winter Afghan CAL??  This week you will be 80% done…. Isn’t that amazing?

This week you will start your border… I have instructions for 2 different styles to choose from... Both are kind of a mystery… But, one is a new great technique most of us will love to use going forward and the other is a whimsical fun style, makers choice on the rest of the project !

I love it at this point, while working on it, I actually can use it as an afghan to keep warm! If you are just getting started.. You can find the first 7 posts in the Crochet with Me tab at the top of the page including the material/info post, you can catch up at any time and the pattern will remain there permanently.

This is a 10 week CAL, plus the finale post… Each week an easy section will be posted on Sunday. There are 3 Ways to get the post… One, just come here on Sunday afternoon, 2 sign up for email delivery of all Beatrice Ryan Design posts on the right sidebar in the “Stay Connected” or 3 join the Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL Facebook Group and links will be announced there every Sunday! Make sure to join the group for the weekly prize drawing, group progress pics and help by members for this years project!

Week 8, Border Started, Scrapbuster Color Theme

For Easy access, make sure to add this to your Ravelry favs and queue!… Click Here!!!

If you missed out on any of the posts or are just joining in, all links are in the Crochet with Me tab at the top of the page. The Material post can also be found in there… or by clicking here.

Don’t forget the other fun, there will be a Grand Prize at the end and weekly prizes too! Details at the bottom of the post!

For sneak peaks, join me on Instagram.. I sometimes show off early pics!

Week 8, Border Started, Self-Striping Neutral Color Theme

Now for some of the details:

This year the project is worked in the round, turning over each round(unless indicated differently). It is a Square Afghan approx. 65″ x 65″ . You can make it in your choice of worsted weight yarn #4. Stashbuster, Ombre’, Self- Striping or even a color theme… At least 2 colors are recommended. I am making 3, Caron Cake Self- Striping, a Stashbuster… And I and now making a Red heart Ombre in Sweet Treat afghan… Trying to catch up…

Week 3, Ombre Yarn

Tips:

You will now start the border, So choose your style before beginning

Style A uses an I Hook, Style B uses your H Hook

You will now use your contrasting color for the border

Week size 63″ x 63″ … Different yarns and tensions may make your slightly different.. Don’t let it be to much of a variance or your project will be way to big or way to small

Week 8 Stitches:

Ch – Chain   St – Stitch   Sl St – Slip Stitch   Sp – Space

Sc–Single Crochet   Hdc-Half Double Crochet

Fp – Front Post Trc – Treble Crochet

Week 8 Border Instructions: Choose A or B

Style A is a Double Sided Border, ones side worked on the wrong side and one worked on the right side then joined at the top edge. This is a double thick boarder much like the satin blanket binding you would sew on both sides of a blanket edging found on baby blankets or quilts. It is a great technique and many people use this when they have a lot of tails left on the ends.. You dont have to weave those ends in when using this technique

Week 8 Style A, 3 rows of the first side of the Double Sided Boarder.
Style A border first 3 rounds

Style B is a whimsical style, much like any other of my edging designs on past afghans.

Style B border

Week 8 Style A Instructions:

*Make sure you work row 1 in a looser Sl St

*Place Markers in each corner st before beginning

*We will be working the first side of the double sided edge this week, make sure you have the correct sides facing per instructions so it turns out right

With WS of project facing you, Using your contrasting color and an I hook, join yarn around any FP of round 59 hdc

This is how the sl sts look on the WS of your project

Round 1: Sl St around each fp hdc around(dont worry about extra sts for corners). Join to beginning sl st and finish off

Turn project to the RS and work in the sl st loops.

You can see on this side there is only one sl st loop to work in, make sure you are on this side which should be the RS of your afghan.

Round 2: Join with sl st to any corner sl st, ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 199 sl sts, *3 hdc in next sl st(corner), hdc in next 199 sl sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 808 hdc

Round 3: Ch 2, do not turn, *3 hdc in corner st, hdc in next 201 sts*, repeat *to* around, (you will only do 200 hdc on last side, ch 2 counted as the 201 st) join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 816 hdc

Round 4: Turn(you now are working on the WS of the edging so the bobble face the RS of the afghan correctly), ch 4(counts as trc), *sc in next st, trc in next st*, repeat *to* 99 more times, sc in next st, {3 sc in next st(corner), repeat *to* 101 times, sc in next st} repeat {to} 2 more times, 3 sc in next st, sc in last st, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 4. = 404 trc(101 on each side), 408 sc(102 each side) and 4 – 3sc groups *Your trc bobbles should be facing the RS of your afghan like they did before.

Thats it.. if you chose this style, Congrats!!! You are done with week 8!!!

Week 8 Style B instructions:

Using an H hook and your contrasting color yarn

Rs of afghan facing, Join your yarn with a sl st in any corner st

Round 1: Ch 1, *(sc,ch2,sc) in st, sc in next 199 sts*, Repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 796 sc & 4(sc,ch2,sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in st, {*ch 4, sk 3 sts, sc in next st*, repeat *to* 49 more times, (dc,ch1,dc) in corner, sc in next st}, repeat {to} 3 more times ending with a (dc,ch1,dc), join with sl st to beginning sc. = 4- (dc,ch1,dc), 200 ch 4, & 204 sc

Round 3: Do not turn, 2 sl sts in next ch 4 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, *ch 4, sc in next ch 4 sp*, repeat *to* 48 more times, {ch 4, (dc,ch1,dc) in corner, repeat *to* 50 times}, repeat {to} 2 more times, ch 4, (dc,ch1,dc) in corner, ch 4, sl st to beginning sc. = 200 sc, 204 ch 4 sp & 4 – (dc,ch1,dc)

That’s it if you chose style B.. Congrats!!!!

Crochet with Me!! Crochet-A-Long… Week 8

Crochet with Me!! Crochet-A-Long… Week 8

Welcome back to our Crochet with Me!! Crochet-A-Long…  As we finish up this weeks assignment,  we will be 3/4 of the way done with our project… Can you believe it??  I am really loving my afghan and each week I am enjoying the process of  the few hours it takes to complete!!  I hope you are loving it too!!

Crochet with Me week 8

For our weekly housekeeping I will address a question I had this week….  Some of us have wondered about  the yardage and needed to buy yarn to continue.  Some people are making this scrappy, others are doing monochrome or 2 color,,, The rest of us are doing the 3 color.  As listed in the original directions, We will be very close to the estimated amount I stated in the directions…. I purchased 3 skeins each of my Boysenberry and Peacock and at the end of week 8 I have used 2 of each and will have to start with my 3rd skeins for week 9, I will have plenty of each to finish the project… For my Eggshell which is my main color, I originally purchased 5 skeins and at the end of week 8~ I am in my 3rd skein.  I will need my 4th skein for sure and think I will have to go into my 5th skein by the end… I hope that helps with any questions about yarn!!

This week we are back to a quick work up of the rows… The last couple of weeks our shells and chains were a lot of work and many people are still catching up!  So I think you will all be happy to have an easy week!!
