Granny’s Circle in Square… Free Crochet Pattern!

Here is a Fun, Easy square to add to your Granny Square Collections!  Granny’s Circle in Square is a fun way to add style to any afghan you are making!!

Recently I was designing our latest Crochet~A~Long… This fun square was part of that pattern, but it occurred to me that some people may not be participating or would just love to add this pattern to their library!!  Occasionally I will be adding more styles of Granny Squares to my Free Pattern Category!!  So,, Let’s get started with my Granny’s Circle in Square!!

Materials:  

Worsted Weight Yarn in multiple colors…  1-3 yards of each color ~ 3 or more colors

Hook ~ I

Scissors

Stitches:

St ~ Stitch     Ch ~ Chain     Sc ~ Single Crochet     Hdc ~ Half Double Crochet     Dc ~ Double Crochet    Trc – Triple Crochet     Dtrc – Double Triple Crochet.    Sl St ~ Slip Stitch

Instructions:

Each Square should measure approx. 6″ x 6″.

Row 1:  Ch4, 9 Dc in the 4th Ch from hook (The first 3 chains count as a Dc), Join with Sl St to top of Beginning Ch. = 10 Dc

Row 2:  Ch 3 (Counts as Dc now and throughout), Dc in the same St as Beginning, 2 Dc in each St around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 20 Dc

Row 3:  Ch 3, Dc in same St, Dc in the next St, *2 Dc in the next St, Dc in the next St*, Repeat * * around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 30 Dc

Row 4:  Ch 3, Dc in same St, Dc in the next 2 Sts, * 2 Dc in the next St, Dc in the next 2 Sts*, Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 40 Sc

Row 5:  Ch1, Sc in the same St, Sc in the next St, *Hdc in the next 2 Sts, Dc in the next St, (Trc, Dtrc, Trc) all in the next St(Corner Made), Dc in next St, Hdc in the next 2 Sts, Sc in the next 3 Sts*, Repeat * * around 3 more times, ending with a Sc in the last St (Instead of Sc in next 3 Sts), Join with Sl St to beginning Sc. Finish off = 48 Sts

Row 6: Change to Border Color, Join to any Dtrc with Sl St, Ch 1, 3 Sc in the same St(this makes a corner), Sc in the next 11 Sts, *3 Sc in the next St, Sc in the next 11 Sts*, Repeat * * 2 more times. Join to beginning with Sl St. =56 Sc Finish off.

Congratulations… You now have a Circle in a Square!!

Blocking your Square ~ You may wonder how or why we block our crochet… It leaves your finished project looking polished and professional and it allows you to get your square into the desired shape and size!… It is easy to do too!!

Wintertide headband… Free Crochet Pattern!!! This is an easy to wear, fashion forward headband…  It is a one skein project and is super fast and easy to make!!  You can dress it up by adding a decorative button too!!

Headband measures approx 21″

Materials:

100 Yards Bulky Weight Yarn, *I used Lion Brand Lions Pride Woolspun
Hook ~ J

1 Large Decorative Button

Yarn Needle

Stitches: 

Ch ~ Chain       St ~ Stitch       Sl St ~ Slip Stitch

Sc ~ Single Crochet       Dc ~ Double Crochet

*Tips ~  This headband is worked In The Round and in Back Loops

Wintertide Headbands Free Pattern

Instructions:

Headband~

Ch 60, Join to the beginning to form a ring.  Be very careful not to twist the chain while joining.

Row 1:  Ch 1, Sc in the same Ch and the next 54 Chs, Ch 5,  Skip the last 5 chains of the previous row and Join to the top of the beginning Sc with Sl St. = 55 Sc and 5 Chains.

Row 2: Working Back Loops now and throughout. Ch 3 (Counts as Dc now and throughout), Dc in the next 54 Sts, Ch 5, Skip 5 Sts, Join with Sl St to the beginning.  = 55 Dc and  5 Chains

Row 3:  Ch 1, Sc in same St and the next 54 Sts, Ch 5, Skip 5 Sts and Join with Sl St to the beginning.  = 55 Sc and 5 Chains

Rows 4-7:  Repeat Row 2 & 3

Finish Off.

Decorative Cover for gathering the headband~

Ch 7 and working in Back Loops

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and each across. = 6 Sc

Row 2:  Ch 1, Turn, Sc in each St across. = 6 Sc

Rows 3-10: Repeat Row 2

Finish Off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Gathering the headband~

Wrap the Gathering Band around the un-worked chains of the headband bringing the short ends of the band together. Whip Stitch the ends together using the tail left for sewing.

Sew Decorative Button on the front of the gathering band all the way through the back of the band to secure the band in place as well as the button.  Weave in any ends.

Congratulations… You now have a Wintertide Headband!!
