Yarn Fun For Our CAL…..

Yarn Fun For Our CAL…..

.

Yesterday was a successful trip to buy yarn!!

I scanned the yarn aisles of JoAnns for quite a while before I decided on the brand of yarn and colors I thought I would love to work with…My final decision was Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand Yarn… I was looking for something soft and affordable!  This yarn was on sale for $2.39(Regularly $3.99) and I had an additional coupon for 10% off my entire purchase,,, for a grand total of$39.32… I decided to purchase 17 skeins… 170 yard each for a total yardage of 2890… I am estimating yardage for the CAL to be 2500-3000 depending on what size hooks are used and personal preference for the size each person may make… There will be some easy stopping points if some participants would like to make it a little smaller…  Also another reason I selected Vanna’s Choice was the wonderful array of colors… There were so many to choose from!  And… If I need more of any color,,, It is very easily found!

My daughter had a hand in choosing these colors… I think she really just wanted to get out of the yarn aisle!  I had these colors plus a few more in the basket trying to make my final selection and she helped me narrow it down to these 5 fabulous colors!!!!… I am playing around with the design today and will be getting the pattern started!  A Full Materials List will be posted in a couple of days,,, But if you are itching to get your yarn ~this can be a scrap buster along with one neutral or you can choose a color scheme using 3-5 colors plus a neutral!

I am really excited about our CAL journey together!!!! How about you??

Weekend WIP’s and Pattern Review… Whats on your hook?? Lets chat!!

It Saturday and I am sooooo excited!~!!!

I am off to buy my yarn to start the Viewer’s Choice Crochet-A-Long… I have the design sketched out and a color scheme decided…  Today I will head to JoAnns… along with my coupons to purchase my yarn…  I will also be grabbing a few other much-needed supplies for my crochet addition!  The closest JoAnns is over an hour away… So it is a big treat to go buy yarn!  We do have a local yarn shop here in my town… So don’t get me wrong… I love to buy yarn there…But for this project, they don’t have the yarn I need at the price I can afford…  I try to make at least 1-2 purchases a month at our LYS…

So, My weekend WIP is getting started with the CAL Afghan!  I will be posting the materials list this week after I get a little more of the design put together…  On Saturday January 18th I will post the first Pattern Segment for our CAL… Each Saturday I will post a segment for a week’s worth of crochet… Each segment will be easy to complete in the time-frame… The following Friday we will have Show and Tell” over on Facebook… And if you get a little behind,  the pattern will remain posted throughout the whole process. Are you ready???  You can either follow along here or on Ravelry!!

.

Now for a little pattern review… This week I worked on two of my own patterns…The little shop I sell in Alpine Originals needed to be restocked and so I had fun working up these two patterns… Amazing Grace Hats and Twisted Stitches Coffee Cozies…  Both of these patterns are available for free in my pattern tab at the top right of this page… It was fun to work on these patterns again… They are easy and quick to work up!!! Let me know if you have made these and what you think!!

The other day I promised you  a story that would keep you laughing through the new year… So here we go!!!

A few days ago when I was trying so hard to finish up my last project for 2013… The beautiful “Peacock Doily”,,, I was counting away,,,Trying to decide when to take a break from my stitching and clean up the house…   I was chatting online with my dear friend Kathy Lashley from ELK Studio Handcrafted Crochet Designs….  We were typing away back and forth having a great time talking about crochet, family, our Christmas and what our plans were for the upcoming year…

I finished a round of the doily and laid it out on my area rug to see how it looked… I then decided to get something to drink and return to my laptop to chat with Kathy and crochet…  But… I got slightly distracted with the dishes in the sink,,, So I cleaned the kitchen… Then I realized I needed to tell Kathy something-So back to the laptop…  As I was sitting talking with her my youngest daughter text me and said she was on her way home with her friends… Well yes… It was a Saturday and I wasn’t dressed yet…So I hopped up and got dressed,,, Then decided I better vacuum really quick before they came home…

My mind was now racing with all I needed to do… Vacuum,,, Tell Kathy more things… Laundry,,,Pick up some milk,,, Cook dinner,,, and yes,,,,Finish my final 2013 project… So I was feeling a little spun out as I began vacuuming and the girls walked in the door…  I greeted them and they all trailed into her room… Trying to hurry to get done with everything,,, All I could think of was how  to be done with the cleaning and tell Kathy a few more things and sit down to crochet…

And it happened… The sound of something being slurped up into the vacuum that shouldn’t be slurped up!!… Yep,,, The doily that I was trying to finish was now in the brush of the vacuum along with several yards of the thread that had been unwound and slurped up too!!!!  I stood just for a moment as things flashed through my mind...like  it being ruined… broken … shredded...  I gently pulled it out and Yippee… It was OK… Only a half of row had been ripped out by my vacuum and the thread broke a few yards down the line…  I started laughing and realized I had kept Kathy hanging in our conversation… I rushed back to my laptop laughing so hard and trying to type what had just happened…  Kathy started laughing so hard with me… we both could hardly type…

Yep… This is the life of a Crochet-a-holic…  To many projects and not enough time…  It was perfect to have Kathy with me when all this happened… We are two peas in a  pod and I knew right away when I told her what happened she would picture it perfectly in her mind and we could laugh together!!!!  I hope you are laughing too!!!!  As you know I finished the doily and everything turned out fine… What a way to end the year in Crochet!!!

.

Happy New Year… Elena
