Fall is in the air! This Crochet Acorn Pillow is the perfect project for fall decorating!! Easy and fun to make… Free Crochet Pattern!!!
Three colors of yarn(Cap is 1 strand of yarn and base is 2 strands of yarn together), a bit of stuffing and some textual stitching and you can whip this Crochet Acorn Pillow up in no time!
I love each season, but as one comes to a close I am soooooo ready for the next! Here in my small Northern California town, I live at the base of a 14179′ mountain… So temperatures in the evening are dropping into the upper 40’s and a nice breeze keeps the daily temps in the 70’s.
Squirrel’s are gathering their stash, as well as the local birds! Trees as starting to get ready for Fall and the acorns are going to drop any time(if the squirrels aren’t getting them first).
It is the perfect time for making my Crochet Acorn Pillow!

Supplies
Yarn: Worsted Weight #4 colors A, B & C. Approximately 300 yards of each. I used Red Heart Super Saver in A: Coffee for the cap, and two strands together for the base B: Buff & C: Buff Fleck. This is what I had in my stash and I pulled all the colors out that I thought may work and liked these colors best!

Hook: H This worked for my tension, but if you would like it to be close to mine… Check your gauge(see below)
Fiber Fill: 1 bag
Scissors, Place Markers and Yarn Needle
Pair of old darker tights or nylons to hold the fiber fill stuffing so it doesn’t pop through the crochet

CAP Use Color A 1 Strand
Ch 2
1: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st to 1st sc. = 8 sc
2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each st, join with sl st to 1st sc. = 16 sc
3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 1st st, trc in next st(this will create a bobble on the rs), * 2 sc in next st, trc in next st*, rep *to* around, join with sl st to 1st sc. = 16 sc & 8 trc
4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around join with sl st to 1st sc. = 24 sc
5: Ch 4(counts as trc), turn, 2 sc in next st, * trc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, rep *to* around, join with sl st to top of ch 4. = 12 trc & 24 sc
6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around join with sl st to 1st sc. = 36 sc
7: Ch 1, turn, *sc in 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, trc in next st*, rep *to* around, join with sl st to sc. = 12 trc & 36 sc
8: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around join with sl st to 1st sc. = 48 sc

18 – 21: Rep rows 14-17
22: Ch 1, turn, *sc in 8 sts, dec*, rep *to* around, join with sl st to sc. = 72sc
FO
BASE Use 1 strand of B and 1 strand of C held together
On RS join yarn in any bl of round 22
*You will work in continuous rounds with no joining. Place Marker in 1st st and move it each round to keep track of the round you are on.
1: Ch 2(counts as hdc), blhdc in each st around- no join = 72 blhdc
2-5: Hdc in each st arouned – no joining = 72 hdc
6: *Hdc in 10 sts, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 66 hdc
7-12: Hdc in each st around to marker. = 66 hdc
13: *Hdc in 9 sts, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 60 hdc
14: Hdc in each st around to marker. = 60 hdc
15: Hdc in 4 sts, dec, *Hdc in 8 sts, dec*, rep *to* around, hdc in last 4 sts to marker. = 54 hdc
16: Hdc in each st around to marker. = 54 hdc
17: *Hdc in 7 sts, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 48 hdc
18: Hdc in each st around to marker. = 48 hdc
19: Hdc in 3 sts, dec, *Hdc in 6 sts, dec*, rep *to* around, hdc in last 3 sts to marker. = 42 hdc
20: *Hdc in 5 sts, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 36 hdc
21: Hdc in 2 sts, dec, *Hdc in 4 sts, dec*, rep *to* around, hdc in last 2 sts to marker. = 30 hdc
22: *Hdc in 3 sts, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 24 hdc
Stuffing –
Take a pair of panty hose or tights and cut legs off leaving enough to tie them off. Place the body of tights into the acorn with the waistband at the opening of round 22. Stuff with fiber fill and keep pulling up the tights as you go to the top… with yarn needle and yarn, loosely sew around waistband and draw closed
23: *Hdc in 2 sts, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 18 hdc
24: *Hdc, dec*, rep *to* around to marker. = 12 hdc
25: Dec around. = 6 hdc
FO leaving a long tail for closing bottom
To finish filling the bottom of the acorn… I took my scraps of yarn and stuffed them in… you can use fiber fill if you like.
Weave yarn tail thru 6 sts and draw closed to secure
STEM
With Color A
Ch 5, 8 sc in 4th ch from hook, no joining, continuously sc around until your stem is the desired length. Mine was 2″, FO leaving long tail for sewing it on
Sew stem onto center of the cap. FO and weave in all ends.
FINISHING THE CAP
Join Color A in any fl of round 22 of cap
With the top of the acorn facing up
1: Ch 2, flhdc in each st around, join with sl st to top of ch 2. = 72 flhdc
2: Ch 1, *(sc, ch2, sl st) in st, sc in next st*, rep *to* around, join with sl st to sc. = 36 sc & 36 (sc,ch2,slst)
FO and weave in all ends
