Snowy Mountain Beanie… Free Crochet Pattern

Snowy Mountain Beanie… Free Crochet Pattern

Snowy Mountain Beanie

If you love this pattern… Add it to your Ravelry queue…Click Here!!

I had so much fun designing this Snowy Mountain Beanie!!  I was inspired by my Rainbow Dash Blanket Pattern and using one skein of Caron Cakes in “Cake Pop”, I was able to make 3 hats in the same colors, but different color striping… I loved this so much and if you have followed me long… You know how much I love self striping yarn!!

snow-mountain-beanies-free-crochet-pattern

Materials:

Yarn:  120 yards worsted weight yarn, shown here in Caron Cakes “Cake Pop”.  Ones 383 yd skein will make all three hats!!  What a bargain!!

Hook:  J

Size:

Brim 19″ unstreached, Crown 21″ unstreatched, Top to bottom 9″ unstreatched. If making large circumferences, you may want to up your hook size.

Gauge:

2″ x 2″ swatch = 6 double crochet x 3 rows – Make a 4″ x 4″ swatch and then measure the middle 2″ x 2″ to get a good gauge. A small swatch won’t give a good test.

Don’t forget the gauge is important for the fit of the hat!

Stitches:

Sp – Space     St – Stitch     Sl St – Slip Stitch     Ch – Chain     Sc – Single Crochet     Dc – Double Crochet     Sk St – Skip Stitch   Trc – Triple Crochet     Bl – Back Loop

FPTrc – Front Post Triple Crochet~ Yarn over 2 times, insert hook around designated post starting in the front, go around the back of the stitch and around to the front of the other side of the stitch, draw up a loop. Pull through 2 loops 3 times.

*TIPS*  Make sure you make your starting chain even and not tight.  This will result in the brim being to small.  Also when working on the brim rounds 1-5, you will want to make sure you do not crochet snug stitches.

**If you have trouble with the starting chain and first 2 rows being to tight to fit around your head, go up another size hook for these rounds only after checking gauge

**Please check your gauge before starting

Instructions:

Ch 49

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. Join to beginning sc with sl st, be very careful not to twist the work when joining. =48 sc

Now you will be working in the round and this will be the right side facing

Round 2:  Ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout), dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. =48 dc

Round 3:  Ch 1, sc in same sp, Fptrc around the next dc in previous round, *sc in next st, fptrc around next st*, repeat *to*, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 24 sc & 24 fptrc *tip-the st where you fptrc will appear to have a sk st in the top of the round due the going around the st… make sure your so’s go in the next st or you will end up with too many sts.

Round 4: Ch 3, dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 48 dc

Round 5:  Ch 1, sc in 1st st, fptrc around the next st 2 rounds below(see photo), *sc in next st, fptrc around the next st 2 rounds below*, repeat *to* around. join with st st to beginning sc. = 24 sc & 24 fptrc

Round 12:  Ch 3, dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 36 dc

Round 13:  Ch 1, *sc in st, fptrc around next st 2 rounds below 2 times*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 24 fptrc & 12 sc

Round 14:  Ch 3, dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. =36 dc

Round 15:  Ch 1, * sc in st, fptrc around next 2 fptrc’s 2 rounds below(decrease made)*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 12 fptrc & 12 sc

Round 16: Ch 3, dc around, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 24 dc

Round 17:  Ch 1, *sc in st, fptrc around next 2 fptrc’s 2 rounds below(decrease made)*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =6 fptrc & 6 sc

Round 19:  Ch 1, *sc in st, sk st*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 6 sc

Finish off leaving tail for drawing top together

With tail sew top together and finish off.

BRIM

Join yarn to any st in beginning ch with right side facing.

Round 1:  Ch 1, sc around, join with sl st to beginning sc.  =48sc *make sure to sc loosely so hat is not tight.
