Materials ~

Yarn ~ 150 Yards of worsted weight wool yarn.  I used Premier Yarns Boreal in Kingfisher -2 Skeins

Hook ~ K

Elastic Hairband

Size ~

22″ circumference un-streatched  and 9″ height

Stitches ~

St – Stitch     Ch – Chain      Sp – Space      Sk – Skip      Sl St – Slip Stitch      Sc – Single Crochet     Hdc – Half Double Crochet     Dc – Double Crochet     Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet

*Shell – 3 dc in designated st.

*Reverse Sc

Round 1:  52 foundation sc (or ch 53, turn sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across), join with sl st to beginning sc being very careful not to twist the project = 52 sc.*The foundation sc is a bit more stretchy and will make a better base.

Round 2:  Ch 3(counts as Dc now and throughout), sk st, 3dc in next st, *sk st, dc in next st, sk st, 3 dc in next st*, repeat *to* around, join around beg dc(this will make the joining st look like a fpdc by going around and not in the st). = 13 shells & 13 dc

Rounds 2 – 15:  Ch 3, *3dc shell in next st(this will be the 1st st of shell from previous round), sk 2 sts, fpdc around the next dc*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st around beginning dc. = 13 shells & 13 fpdc

*Attaching hairband – Ch 1, sc around the hairband into each st around, join with sl st to beginning sc.

With right side still facing(outside of hat), join yarn in any st of beginning foundation sc row

Round 1:  Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to beginning sc. = 52 sc

Round 2 & 3:  Ch 2(counts as hdc), hdc in each st around, join with sl st to top of ch 2. = 52 hdc

Round 4:  Ch 1, reverse sc around, join with sl st to beginning st. = 52 rev sc

Finish off, weave in ends.

Congratulations, you now have a Boreal Bun Hat!!!

Happy Crocheting!!

Hi, I’m working on this hat… I’m not quite understanding the directions. The circumference of the beginning chain is 16″… And I don’t understand the attached hairband? Is it a headband that goes around the whole head, or an elastic hair ties? Like a ponytail band? You attach at the end? Is this worked as top down or bottom up?
