Weekly Post Schedule

Let’s Get Started with Week 9… Half Squares First!

This Weeks Housekeeping

This week the project with my final base is shown unblocked

This week we switch to Color B and you will be making 4 half squares. I used a complimentary single color yarn for the squares from Michaels- Loops and Threads Impecible Yarn in Putty(see week 1 for total yardage for the project)

I recommend blocking your squares, either on a blocking board(see what I use below) or lightly steam block them

These are the same as the 18 previous squares, just half… A little different because of the way we have to turn work on some rows… Just take your time!!!

I didn’t block mine, so they looked a little large for the space after I attached them. But once I did the border set up it fixed that.

Once the project is all done and blocked… things will lay flat and even

Stitches Used This Week

  • Ch – Chain
  • St – Stitch
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sp – Space
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet
  • Blsc – Back Loop Single Crochet
  • FO – Finish Off
Half Squares

Instructions for Half Squares

Make 4

*It may be easier to place a marker in the first and last stitch, they are a little tricky to see.

Row 1: Ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook – Or Magic Ring with 4 sc. = 4 sc

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in same st, dc in next st, ch 1, dc in next st, 2 dc in last st.= 6 dc & 1 ch sp

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, *fpdc around st below, sc in top of same st, fpdc around next st, sc in next st, fpdc around same st as sc,*, ch 1, repeat *to* 1 time. 4 sc, 6 fpdc, 1 ch sp

Row 4: *No Turn* – Ch 1, 7 sl sts evenly across bottom row edge to other side, ch 1 (you should be now at the beginning of the next fpdc row), *2 fpdc around 1st st, sc in next sc. 2 fpdc around next st, sc in next sc, 2 fpdc around next st, ch 1*, repeat *to* 1 time to end, 2 sl sts in row end, join with sl st to beginning sl st. =9 sl st, 12 fpdc, 4 sc & 3 ch 1 sps

Row 5: *No Turn* – Ch 1, sc in 7 sl sts, 3 sc in next st(top of fpdc to make a corner), sc in next 7 sts, (sc, ch 1, sc) in ch 1 sp, sc in next 7 sts, 3 sc in next ch 1 sp(corner made), sc in last 2 sl sts, join with sl st to beginning. = 31 sc & 1 ch sp

FO, Weave ends in

With right sides up, join your 4 half squares in place(each end of other square rows), don’t worry… the edge will even out with the border and end blocking!

Border Set Up

Yay, now it’s time to set up the border. It’s easy so let’s sit back and have some fun crocheting!

Row 1: With right side facing, Join Color B at the right bottom working in the 1st side st(not the sc of the chevron row), ch 1, sc in side of st, *evenly sc 164 st across the row edges to the 1st st of the left side ending in the side st of the 1st st of the chevron row, 2 sc in 1st st of chevron row(corner made), sc(not the moss st) in your chevron pattern skipping the valley sts and 3 sc in the peak sts, with 8 sc up and down each side of peak/valley across to the end of row, 2 sc in that last st, sc in the side of the same st(corner now made)*, repeat *to* 1 time ending with 2 sc in the last st to finish the last corner, join with sl st to 1st st.

Row 2: Ch 1, *no turn*, Blsc around in each st working the chevron pattern on the top and bottom and putting 3 sc in each of the corners and straight blsc down each side.

That’s it… You have completed week 9!!!! Next week we will finish the border and you will have a complete afghan!
