Amazing Grace Tote Bag

This fun tote can be used for the market, beach or as your everyday bag!! Along with all of the other Amazing Grace Free Patterns, This tote is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness.  Each pattern in the Amazing Grace Free Crochet Pattern Series can be made for personal use or donated to someone suffering or recovering from cancer.

Instructions:

Size:  

Height – Approx 15″ (not including handle)      Circumference – Approx 30″

Materials:

H & K  Hooks

Worsted Weight Yarn – 360-425 Yards,  Cotton or Acrylic    (Red Heart Super Saver Pictured above and Acrylic and Cotton pictures at the bottom of the post)

2 Metal Rings, 1″

I also wanted to tell you about my favorite hooks.. Stitches:

St – Stitch    Sk – Skip      Ch – Chain      Sl St – Slip Stitch       Sc – Single Crochet       Dc – Double Crochet     Dec Sc – Decrease Sc

Working the pattern:

This pattern is worked in the round.

Starting with an H hook, Ch 2.

Row 1:     9  Sc in the second Ch from hook, join with Sl St to beginning Sc. = 9 Sc

Row 2 :    Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining,  2 Sc in each St around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 18 Sc

Row 3:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next St, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next St*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. =27 Sc

Row 4:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 2 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 2 Sts*.    Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning.  = 36 Sc

Row 5:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 3 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 3 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 45 Sc

Row 6:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 4 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 4 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 54 Sc

Row 7:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 5 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 5 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. =63 Sc

Row 8:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 6 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 6 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 72 Sc

Row 9:     Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 7 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 7 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 81 Sc

Row 10:   Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 8 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 8 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 90 Sc

Row 13:   Ch 1, 2 Sc in the same St as joining, Sc in next 11 Sts, *2 Sc in next St, Sc in next 11 Sts*.     Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 117 Sc

Row 14:   Ch 1, Working in Back Loops Only for this row only… 1 Sc in each St around. Join with Sl St to beginning.  =117 Sc

*Switch to Hook K*

Row 15:   Ch 1, (Sc, Ch 2, Sc) all in the first St, Sk 2 Sts, *(Sc, Ch 2, Sc) in next St, Sk 2 Sts*.   Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning Sc. =39 Ch 2 Spaces.

Row 16:   Sl St in Ch 2 Space, Ch 3(Counts as Dc now and through out), 2 Dc in same Sp, *3 Dc in next Ch 2 Space -Dc Cluster made*.  Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning Dc. = 39 Dc Clusters.

Row 17-34:   Repeat rows 15 & 16

Row 35:   Ch 1, Sc in each St around. Join with Sl St to beginning = 117 Sc

Row 36:   Ch 1, Sc in each St around. Join with Sl St to beginning = 117 Sc

Row 37:   Ch 1, *11 Sc, Dec Sc in next St*, Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 108 Sc

Row 38:   Ch 1, *10 Sc, Dec Sc in next St*, Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 99 Sc

Row 39:   Ch 1, Sc Around, Join with Sl St to beginning. = 99 Sc

Row 40:   Ch 1, *9 Sc, Dec Sc in next St*, Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 90 Sc

Handle Base (there will be 2)        handle

*You will no longer be working in the round

Row 1:   Ch 1. Sc in next 15 Sts

Row 2:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 11, Dec Sc. = 13 Sc

Row 3:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 9, Dec Sc. = 11 Sc

Row 4:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 7, Dec Sc. = 9 Sc

Row 5:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 5, Dec Sc. = 7 Sc

Row 6:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 3, Dec Sc. = 5 Sc

Rows 7-11:   Ch 1 Turn, Sc Across. = 5 Sc Finish off, Leaving a long tail for sewing

Second Handle Base

Row 1:  Skip 30 Sts from previous handle base, Join with Sl St to next St. Ch 1 Sc in Same as joining, Sc 14. = 15 Sc

Row 2:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 11, Dec Sc. = 13 Sc

Row 3:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 9, Dec Sc. = 11 Sc

Row 4:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 7, Dec Sc. = 9 Sc

Row 5:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 5, Dec Sc. = 7 Sc

Row 6:   Ch 1 Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 3, Dec Sc. = 5 Sc

Rows 7-11:   Ch 1 Turn, Sc Across. = 5 Sc Finish off, Leaving a long tail for sewing

Bag Edging:      handles

Working along the side rows and across to the other side – From Row 11 on the right handle base to the top of row 11 on the left handle base…

Join with Sl St to top of Row 11, Sc evenly across.  Finish off

Repeat on the other side of bag.

Handle: strap

Ch 6

Row 1:   Sc in second Ch from hook and each across. -= 5 Sc

Row 2:   Ch 1 turn, Sc across. = 5 Sc

Repeat Row 2 until handle measures 22″

Working along side rows of handle. Sc evenly down each side of the handle, finishing off on each side and leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing:     tote pieces

Putting it all together.

Starting with handle base and metal ring. Wrap the handle base around the metal ring and sew it to the inside of tote. Repeat for both sides.

Wrap the Handle strap through the metal ring and sew it toward the inside of the handle. Repeat on the other side.

Monday Makings… Pattern Review and A Crochet For Cancer CAL!!!

Wow,,, It was a busy week… I crocheted my little heart out to finish up two baby shower gifts for my best friends first grandchild!!  They love Retro and VW Bus’… I really wanted to show you all my progress pictures several days ago, But the shower was Saturday… and I didn’t want her seeing the gifts!!  I did post the picture previews to Instagram and Facebook… But now I want to share a little about the patterns with you!!

The first gift was a beautiful Four Color Spiral Blanket by Smooth Fox…  It was really fun to make… It is for someone who has slightly advanced skills… But only because of the color changes…   Once I got my rhythm down… This afghan was a breeze!!  I used Caron Simply Soft for a great Baby Blanket result!!  What do you think?? Next on the Baby Shower Gift List… A VW Pillow… This was definitely a favorite!!!  This pattern is by Deborah Bagley and Dana Bincer at Yarnovations… It was also slightly advanced, but has great instructions…  They have lots of great Free Patterns too… So for your Free VW Bus Crochet Pillow Pattern,,, Click Here!
