Super Saturday Quick Gift Crochet Along!!!

Super Saturday Quick Gift Crochet Along!!!

Today in my Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL Facebook Group we are doing a Super Saturday Quick Gift Crochet Along with my newest pattern, Grandma’s Double Thick Potholders both in Style I & II…

These are a great gift idea, super easy and fast… Christmas is just a couple weeks away and these are the perfect last minute gift!!

You can join my Facebook CAL Group by clicking here… and start the Super Saturday Fun!!! We will be positing our finished pics as we go… So get your yarn, hooks and camera ready and let’s do this!!!

I have been using Peaches & Cream Cotton Yarn by Yarnspirations… I was able to easily get this both at Walmart and JoAnns… But, many people just use their scrap yarn collection in Acrylic or Wool and that will work just fine as long as you don’t use these as a trivet with a very hot pan.

Materials:

Cotton Yarn, 100 yards in 2 colors or approx. 150 yards of one color. So you will have a color A and color B for these patterns (Some people have used regular acrylic or wool yarn… as long as it is not used as a trivet for very hot pans this is fint)

Hook – G

Scissors and Yarn Needle

Stitches:

  • St – Stitch
  • Sp – Space
  • Ch – Chain
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Fsc – Foundation Single Crochet

*You will be making the Moss St which is just a combination of sc and ch 1, this creates a nice texture

Size:

7″ x 7″

Style I Block Color Potholder:

Starting with color A

Make 27 Fsc (or ch 28, turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across)

Drop color A, pick up color B (Do not cut yarn, you will switch everyother row and carry it up)

*After round one you will notice the work curling at the ends… this is what you want.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *ch 1, sk st, sc in next st*, repeat *to* 12 more times, ch 1, working on opposite side of beginning Fsc(see pic below)- sc in 1st st of this side, repeat *to* 13 times, ch 1, join with sl st to beginning sc *drop color B and pick up color A for sl st*, = 28 sc & 28 ch 1sp

Round 2: Ch 2(this counts as a ch 1 sp now and throughout), sk first sc, *sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* around. join with sl st changing to color A. = 28 sc & 28 ch1 sp.

Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in ch 1 sp(being careful to use the space formed by the ch 2 in beginning of round 2 for 1st st), ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st changing to color B. = 28 sc & 28 ch 1 sp

Rounds 4-14: Repeat rows 2 & 3

Round 15 – 28: Repeat rounds 2 & 3 with color B only

Finish of leaving a 30″ tail for sewing and loop.

Using tail and yarn needle, sew top closed. When you reach the opposite end, form a ch 1 loop ad ch 8, sl st back into the same st to form a loop for hanging potholder. Secure and weave in ends.

Style II Diagonal Color Potholder

Starting with color A

Make 39 Fsc (or ch 40, turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across)

Drop color A, pick up color B (Do not cut yarn, you will switch everyother row and carry it up)

*After round one you will notice the work curling at the ends… this is what you want.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *ch 1, sk st, sc in next st*, repeat *to* 18 more times, ch 1, working on opposite side of beginning Fsc(see pic below)- sc in 1st st of this side, repeat *to* 19 times, ch 1, join with sl st to beginning sc *drop color B and pick up color A for sl st*, = 40 sc & 40 ch 1sp

Round 2: Ch 2(this counts as a ch 1 sp now and throughout), sk first sc, *sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* around. join with sl st changing to color A. = 40 sc & 40 ch1 sp.

Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in ch 1 sp(being careful to use the space formed by the ch 2 in beginning of round 2 for 1st st), ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st changing to color B. = 40 sc & 40 ch 1 sp

Rounds 4-14: Repeat rows 2 & 3

Round 15 – 20: Repeat rounds 2 & 3 with color B only

Finish of leaving a 30″ tail for sewing and loop.

Now to fold into the diagonal shape… Using the pictures below for guidance, bring top together in the opposite direction of round 1. Lay flat and sew top together with tail.

Using tail and yarn needle, sew top closed. When you reach the opposite end, form a ch 1 loop ad ch 8, sl st back into the same st to form a loop for hanging potholder. Secure and weave in ends.
