2020 Crochet with Me!! 7th Annual Winter Mystery Afghan CAL… Week 1

Ready, set, GO! Are you with me? Get your yarn and hook and let’s get started… This week we will be completing the first 20 rows.. Don’t worry, super easy, goes by fast and this year.. The project is a binge watching, car ride project.. What does that mean… Easy! Super traditional with a few fun twists and turns….

If this is your first Mystery CAL with me… Check out the past 6 years of the Winter Mystery Afghans and all of the other CAL’s we have done in the Crochet with Me tab at the top of the page! Each week I will post a easy section for you to complete, and in 12 weeks… You will have a fun, whimsical afghan! For the Material List and all of CAL details… Click HERE!

Here is what this week looks like completed… Yes, traditional ~ but there will be some whimsical rows.. So watch for them!

A bit about gauge… Last week I gave all the info on Size, Materials, Gauge and much more in the Material List post… A lot of people don’t do gauge swatches.. That is totally fine.. Afghans dont need to fit. But if you want to try to stick close to the pattern size and yardage needed, you may want to do one.. It is a 3″ x 3″ swatch, but you will want to make the swatch at least 4″ x 4″ then measure in the middle for an accurate gauge of the 3″ x 3″. The beginning/end rows and stitches don’t make accurate counts.. So that is why you want to measure in the middle… G

Here is my color line up… You can choose your colorway to be in any order you like… The way my eye liked my colors was from lightest to darkest… A~White B~Stone C~Sweet Pink D~Light Gray E~Cameo F~Pewter

**This is another traditional afghan, easy stitching, great take along project!

Size:

Approx 55 x 65

Material List:

3000-4000 yds total of worsted weight yarn in 6 colors

I used 2(370 yd) skeins each of Red Heart with Love in the following colors:

  • A-White
  • B-Stone
  • C-Sweet Pink
  • D-Light Gray
  • E-Cameo
  • F-Pewter

*If using other colors, the idea is that they will create a slightly gradient effect throughout the rows. You can use less color combinations, but the effects with turn out differently than the design is intended.

Hook – K or size needed for gauge

Scissors and Yarn needle

Gauge:

Why do a gauge swatch? By making a quick gauge swatch, your project will be closer to the intended size of the design.

3″ x 3″ = 10 blsc x 10 rows *Back Loop Single Crochet. (this has been corrected from the original)

Sweetwater Infinity Scarf… Free Crochet Pattern!

Sweetwater Infinity Scarf… Free Crochet Pattern!

This fun and bright Sweetwater Infinity Scarf is easy to make using a one row repeat!!! A slight chevron pattern gives it a beautiful texture and using Red Heart Unforgettable Yarn does all the color work for you.. Perfect fashion accessory and gift idea too!!

I’m excited to be a part of the 2019 International Crochet Month Designer Showcase with Underground Crafter and to celebrate.. I have designed a brand new free pattern! Sweetwater Infinity Scarf was designed especially for National Crochet Month and this event!! Every day in March 2019, we’ll highlight a different crochet designer who is also a member of the Crochet Guild of America,,, So make sure to go check out the schedule!!!. Each designer will share a free crochet pattern or a 25% discount on a premium pattern. We’ve also partnered with some of our favorite companies to round up some great prizes for you — including yarn, crochet hooks, notions, pattern books, and more! Find out more information about the participating designers, the schedule, and how to enter to win the prizes HERE.

Before we start this fun new pattern, I would love to share a little information about Crochet Guild of America. It’s volunteer run and the only national organization dedicated to the craft of crochet! I became a member shortly before going to San Diego, CA in July of 2015 for my first crochet conference. At the conference, I took classes from some of the industry’s top instructors and because I was a member, I received a big discount on those classes! On top of receiving member discounts on educational classes, as a member, you’ll also receive a subscription to Crochet! magazine, discounts to several suppliers (such as Annies & Leisure Arts), and my favorite benefit… connecting with others at conferences who are as passionate about crochet as I am! I have made life long friends at these conferences and love attending!! I have been a part of the Social Media Team the last 3 years providing Live Videos of the conferences and last year was the Market Place Chairman.
