Monday Makings and Crochet Pattern Review…

I can’t imagine a week without crochet!!!  This last week I have had many hours to sit and create… I love to design new projects and  one of my favorite things to design has been my Amazing Grace Series!!  I am working on the 8th pattern in the series, if you have been following then you know.. It is a Baby Blanket!!  If you are new to Beatrice Ryan Designs or don’t really know the back story of this Amazing Grace Series… I have dedicated these patterns to Breast Cancer Awareness and my dearest friend Sandra Kay Gilb who passed away in 2007 from this disease!  The same stitch pattern is used in all of the projects designed in the series..  Now that I have several patterns in the series, I have expanded my dedication to making these patterns for all cancer types and anyone who is suffering or recovering from a major illness.  My hope is that if you love one of these patterns,,, You might make and donate one of your projects to the cause!  These patterns are for personal use too and I hope you enjoy making some for yourself or as gifts!!

So,,, This week I am over half way done with the pattern and here is another quick peek!!  The Amazing Grace Baby Blanket!!

Monday Makings… Crochet Fun and Yarn Shopping!

I love weekends!!!  Lots of time to crochet and spend time doing my favorite things!!

This last week was so busy, I couldn’t wait to sit down and get some serious crocheting done… And to top it off Saturday was a Yarn Shopping Day!!!  I have been so lucky to be able  to share my creativity with all of you,, It makes my design process so much more fun!!  Friday over on Facebook, We played a little guessing game… It was a blast!!  Every few minutes I posted a clue to “What will my next Free Pattern be”…  So many good guesses!  If you missed out on the fun, you will find out at the bottom of this post!!  Let’s get started on this week’s Monday Makings segment……

To start the segment off.. I want to share with you 2 Memory Blankets I made these last week!  You may wonder how I finished 2 blankets,,, Well ~ A Memory Blanket is a  small blanket 12″ or 15″ .. These blankets are being donated to our July ELK Studio From The Heart Charity Drive.  As most of you know, I have been working with Kathy from ELK Studio Handcrafted Crochet Designs for almost a year with the charity she put together. Each month we donate to a designated charity.  Anyone can join us and if you are interested just shoot me an email!   For July, we are donating to Project Sweet Peas, Project Sweet Peas is a national non-profit organization coordinated by volunteers, who through personal experience have become passionate about providing support to families with infants in intensive care and to those who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss.    Maria from Pattern Paradise has organized this months drive and I have decided to donate these sweet little blankets…

These Memory Blankets are a simple Corner to Corner Afghan and each measures approximately 15″.

If you haven’t tried this type of afghan, they are all the rage and are easy to make… Red Heart Yarns has a great pattern you can follow… Click here for the details!  This is the third time I have made this type of pattern and it is addicting!!

Next up is the  really fun stuff... I want to share with you my Saturday Yarn Shopping Trip… I left late morning to head up to Medford to get a little work done on my car… We live a little over an hour away from a town with any major stores, so when we go… We fill the day with shopping!  I collected all my coupons for JoAnn’s and Michael’s…  JoAnns had 4- 50% off, 1 – 40% off and then 15 % off the entire purchase coupon… Michaels had a 25% off the entire purchase coupon… So this was a great day to go yarn shopping!!  Here is what I got…  6 soft skeins of Red Heart Baby Yarn for my next new Free Pattern (See that announcement at then bottom).. Some Cotton yarn for my stash, a new hook and some place markers…

Now… What you have been waiting for… After much thought ~  My next Free Crochet Pattern will be the 8th pattern in my Amazing Grace Pattern Series!!!  When I was trying to decide what to add, I realized I didn’t have a pattern for children yet!  Since the Amazing Grace Series is dedicated to Cancer and Illness, our little loves need something to wrap up in when they are suffering and recovering!!  So… My next pattern is ~ Amazing Grace Baby Blanket…  Here is a small sneak peek of this fun pattern… As usual we will be using the same stitch pattern that is in all the Amazing Grace projects… It is easy to follow and  the finished afghan will be cheery!!  Are you ready to make one??  The pattern is still in the works and should be finished before the end of the month!!  Stay Turned!!

I recommend blocking your shawl for the best result.  I used the Steam Blocking Method, but you may also dampen you shawl and pin it into place until dry.

Enjoy!
