Shells & Bobbles Fingerless Gloves

Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn 200-250 Yards
I Hook
.
Gauge: 6 Dc x 3 Rows = 2″ x 2″
.
Stitches: Ch – Chain Sl St – Slip Stitch Sc – Single Crochet Dc – Double Crochet Sts – Stitches Sk – Skip
.
Instructions:
Wristband
Ch 6,Turn
.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and each across. Turn. = 5 Sc
.
Row 2-24: Ch 1, Sc in Back Loop of 1st St and each across. Turn. = 5 Sc
.
Glove Base (Working in end of wristband rows)
Row 1: Ch 1, Sc 26 evenly across the end of rows. Turn. = 26 Sc
.
Row 2: Ch 1, Sc in 1st St, Sk 1 St, *(Sc, Ch 2, Sc) in next St, Sk 2 Sts* Repeat 6 times, (Sc, Ch 2, Sc) in next St, Sk 1 St, Sc in last St. Turn. = 8 Ch 2 Spaces.

Row 3: Ch 3 (Counts as Dc now and through out), 5 Dc(Shell) in each Ch 2 Sp across, Dc in last St. Turn = 8 – 5 Dc Shells.

Row 4: Ch 1, Sc in 1st St, Sk 2 Sts, *(Sc, Ch 2, Sc) in next St, Sk 4 Sts,* Repeat 6 times, (Sc, Ch 2, Sc) in next St, Sk 2 Sts, Sc in last St. Turn. = 8 – Ch 2 Sps

Rows 5-14: Repeat rows 3 & 4 – 5 times
.
Row 15: Ch 3 (Counts as Dc now and through out), 5 Dc(Shell) in each Ch 2 Sp across, Dc in last St. Turn = 8 – 5 Dc Shells.

Joining Side Seam
Starting at the top edge of the Fingerless Glove, sew the side seams of the glove together for 2″. Skip the next 3″ of the side seam for the thumb opening. Sew the remaining 3 ” of glove, ending at the bottom edge of the wristband. Finish off. Turn glove right side out with joining seam now on the inside.

Thumb Opening
Join with Sl St to any St of thumb opening. You will be working in row ends around the thumb opening and in the round.

Row 1: Ch 1, Sc 28 Sts evenly around thumb opening. Join with Sl St to 1st Sc. = 28 Sc
.
Row 2: Ch 1, 26 Sc around (Decrease 2 Sts evenly). Join with Sl St to 1st Sc. = 26 Sc
.
Row 3: Ch 1, 20 Sc around (Decrease 6 Sts evenly). Join with Sl St to 1st Sc. = 20 Sc
.
Row 4: Ch 1, 15 Sc around (Decrease 5 Sts evenly). Join with Sl St to 1st Sc. = 15 Sc
.
Row 5: Ch 1, Sc in 1st St, *Ch 2, Sc in next St*. Repeat around. Join with Sl St to 1st Sc. = 15 Ch 2 Sps. Finish Off.

One other comment, when you say “increase or decrease x stitches evenly” I want to be sure I’m clear on how.
For this pattern… just skip a stitch to decrease… it is very forgiving… There are no increases… : )

Would there be a way to make a finger cover that could be tacked to the top of the glove and then folded down when needed over the fingers… Im making these for an electrician and boy do they get frost bitten fingers….

I have seen that done many times. I dont have a pattern for that part that would cover as needed. If you found another pattern that had that part you could add that section to this pattern… If I have time in the future I may add that or make a different pattern,

Can you explain row 3 of the main glove for me please. I don’t understand
So all you are doing is beginning and ending the rows with a double crochet and making a 5 double crochet shell in each chain 2 space…
