If you love my Whimsical Warmth Series… Whimsical Warmth Headband ~ Version II is the 4th free crochet pattern in the series(find the links to the other 3 patterns at the bottom of this post)… Easy to make and fun to wear, this fashionable headband pattern is set off with a beautiful set of buttons to make your accessory truly whimsical!!

Hook ~ H
Yarn Needle
2 Buttons
24 1/2″ Laid Flat and 22″ Around Buttoned
2″ x 2″ = 7 sc x 8 rows
yo ~ yarn over sk ~ skip
sp ~ space st ~ stitch
sl st ~ slip stitch ch ~ chain sc ~ single crochet
Hdc ~ half double crochet fphdc ~ front post half double crochet
bpfdc ~ back post half double crochet rev sc ~ reverse single crochet
dec ~ decrease (insert hook in st, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.)
Puff Stitch ~ (Yo, insert hook in designated space, pull up a loop) 4 times, yo and pull through all 9 loops on hook, ch 1. Make sure all loop you pull up are a double crochet height.
Ch 64
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 63 sc
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, * Ch 1, sk st, sc in next st*, Repeat * * across. = 32 sc & 31 ch 1.
Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as hdc now and throughout), *puff st in next ch1-sp, ch 1*, Repeat * * arcoss to the last ch 1 sp, puff st in ch1-sp, hdc in last st. = 2 hdc, 31 puff st, 30 ch 1
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, sc in each puff st and ch1-sp across, sc in last st. = 63 sc
Rows 5- 10: Repeat rows 2-4 two more times.
Do not finish off
Row 1: Ch 1, do not turn, working along the 1st short edge of rows, sc 11 sts evenly across.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across. = 11 hdc
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, *fphdc, bphdc*, Repeat across to the last 2 sts, fphdc, hdc. = 2 hdc, 5 fphdc, 4 bphdc
Row 4: Ch 2, turn, *bphdc, fphdc*, Repeat across to the last 2 sts, bphdc, hdc. = 2 hdc, 5 bphdc, 4 fphdc
Rows 5 & 6: Repeat rows 3 – 4 one time.
Row 7: Ch 2, turn, fphdc, bphdc, ch 1, sk st(this is the 1st button hole), bphdc, fphdc, bphdc, ch 1, sk st(2nd button-hole), bphdc, fphdc, hdc. = 2 hdc, 2 ch1-sp, 3 fphdc, 4 bphdc
Row 8: Ch1, turn, dec sc, sc in next 7 sts, dec sc. = 9 sc
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc across. = 9 sc This is the Right Side.
Finish off.
With Right side facing, join with sl st to 2nd short end at corner.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc 11 sts evenly across.
Rows 2-6: Repeat rows 2-6 of first side button edging.
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, dec sc, sc in next 7 sts, dec sc. = 9 sc
Ch 1, rev sc around.
Finish off.
Sew 2 button onto the base of the short end of the headband edge matching them up to the button holes. You can place the buttons correctly to make the headband fit correctly.

Easy to make and fun to wear this slightly slouchy beanie is crocheted using worsted weight yarn in either multi-color or a solid!! This is a One Skein Project and is made with Vanna’s Choice Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn!
Here is the Ladies Whimsical Warmth Beanie made in a solid theme using Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Beige!
Of course, if you were a fan of the children’s hat,,, You can make it in a fun and even more whimsical style using as many colors as you like!!
This fun whimsical style is made using Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Kelly Green, Terra Cotta, Honey and Cranberry!
So if you are ready to make an easy beanie, let’s get started… Grab your yarn and hooks and have some fun!!
Worsted Weight Yarn ~ 170 yards total. If making a solid color hat you can use one skein. If making a multi-colored hat I used 4 colors. A, B, C & D.
Hooks ~ I & J
Yarn Needle
2″ x 2″ = 7 sc x 8 rows
yo ~ yarn over sk ~ skip sp ~ space st ~ stitch sl st ~ slip stitch ch ~ chain sc ~ single crochet
dec ~ decrease (insert hook in st, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.)
Puff Stitch ~ (Yo, insert hook in designated space, pull up a loop) 4 times, yo and pull through all 9 loops on hook, ch 1. Make sure all loop you pull up are a double crochet height.
* When making multi-colored hat, join with sl st in the same st you finished off in the last round.*
Band Ribbing:
Approximately 22″
Using I Hook
With Color A or solid ~ Ch 5
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 4 sc
Rows 2 – 66: Ch 1, turn, sc in back loop of each st across. = 4 sc
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing band together.
Join beginning ch foundation row to row 66 and sew together in 1 loop of each row to form the band of the hat.
Hat Crown:
You will now be working in the round and continuing with color A if making multi-colored hat.
Change to J Hook
Rnd 1: Working in end of rows of Hat Band Ribbing. Join in any row end with sl st. Ch 1, sc in same st and in each row end st around. Join with sl st to beginning sc . = 66 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, ch 1, sk st, *sc in next st, ch 1, sk st* Repeat * * around. Join with sl st to 1st sc. = 33 sc & 33 ch-1 sps.
Rnd 3: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, Puff st in same sp, ch 1, *Puff st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1*, repeat * * around. Join to top of 1st Puff st. = 33 Puff sts & 33 ch-1 sps.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each ch-1 sp and the top of each Puff st around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 66 sc
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 66 sc
Change to Color B if making multi-colored hat
Rnd 6 & 7: Ch 1, Sc in each st around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 66 sc
Rnd 8 -11: Repeat rounds 2 – 5
Change to Color C if making multi-colored hat
Rnd 12 & 13: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 66 sc
Rnd 14 – 17: Repeat rounds 2 – 5
Change to Color D if making a multi-colored hat
Rnd 18: Ch 1, sc in 1st 4 sts, dec, *sc in next 4 sts, dec*, Repeat * * around. Join to beginning sc. = 55 sc
Rnd 19: Ch 1, sc in 1st 9 sts, dec, *sc in next 9 sts, dec*, Repeat * * around. Join to beginning sc. = 50 sc
Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, ch 1, sk st, *sc in next st, ch 1, sk st*, Repeat * * around. Join with Sl St to beginning sc. = 25 sc & 25 Ch 1.
Rnd 21: Repeat Round 3. = 25 Puff Sts & 25 Ch 1 sps.
Rnd 22: Ch 1, sc in each puff st and each ch 1 sp around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 50 sc
Rnd 23: Ch 1, sc in 1st 3 sts, dec, *sc in next 3 sts, dec*, Repeat * * around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. =40 sc
Change to color A if making a multi-colored hat
Rnd 24: Ch 1, sc in 1st 2 sts, dec, *sc in next 2 sts, dec*, Repeat * * around. Join with Sl St to beginning sc. = 30 sc
Rnd 25: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, dec, *sc in next st, dec*, Repeat * * Around. Join with Sl St to beginning sc. =20 sc
Rnd 26: Ch 1, Dec around. Join to beginning dec with sl st. = 10 sts.
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Using a yarn needle, sew the last 10 stitches together by weaving in and out of each of the 10 sts. Draw the opening closed and tie off on the inside of the hat.
Weave all ends in.
