Some tips and housekeeping

This week we are making another Chevron Moss Stitch Section!… This is the 3rd Chevron Section!! And… We are finally joining in those 9 squares!!!

Although the border is a mystery, if you are going to follow along and make that border, the tails for changing colors on both sides don’t need to be woven in.

The project should be 48″ x 72″ when finished and blocked with the designed border.

*When Joining your squares to the 2 chevron sections, you can join any way you like… I used a simple sewing method. (see pic below)

**Make sure you don’t join to tightly. This will slightly pucker as you can see in the photo below, but you will block it to make it nice!

This is the sewing technique I used.

I sewed the squares Right Sides Up for both the squares and sections, starting with the bottom of the squares right to left, then the top of the squares right to left. The stitching was in the back loop of the corresponding square stitch then thru the back loop of the corresponding section stitch, next the back loop of the section corresponding stitch then thru the back loop of the corresponding square stitch and continued across . See the illustration above

You can see in the picture aboe that the sewn in squares slightly pucker… See below after blocking

Let’s get started on Week 6!

First, you will make a 3rd Chevron Section, then you will sew your squares in place. Make sure when joining in the squares your pieces are both right side facing!

Stitches used this week

Section 4 is the Chevron Pattern in the Moss or Linen Stitch in Color A

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, dec sc over 1st st and ch 1 sp, (ch1, sk st, sc in next ch 1 sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk st [(sc,ch2,sc) in peak ch 2 sp, (ch1,sk st, sc in next ch 1 sp) 4 times, sk 2 valley sts, (sc in sp, ch 1,sk st) 4 times], repeat [to] across to the last peak, (sc,ch2,sc) in peak ch 2 sp, (ch 1,sk st,sc in next sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk st, dec sc in last sp & st 10 peak/valley ( 8sc, 10 sc & 1 ch 2 for each peak/valley)

Rows 3-36ish – Repeat row 2 until you run out of the yarn in the Yarn Cake or until it is approx. 15″ Tip of Top peak to tip of the Bottom Peak.

That’s it for the Chevron Section… Now let’s sew your squares between Chevron Section 2 and Section 3!!

Go ahead and join them in between the sections in your favorite method or the sewing method I shared above. Just don’t make the joining tight… You can use either Color A or Color B.

Some tips and housekeeping

This week we are joining 2 of the chevron strips.

It will be in a fun way to fill in between the strips!!

You will use a HOOK H for this section… or go down a size from what you are using… It will not turn out right if you use the hook you have been using.

It will look kind of wavy or puckered. In the picture below, I have lightly blocked it to make it look correct.

*** Look at how the peaks and valley’s line up for this join. make sure you have yours the same**

Week 5

Stitches used this week

Section 5 is a joining and you will use color B

First Section

Week 2

2nd Section

Week 3 CAL

3rd Section

week 4

Now let’s start the 4th Section!

week 5

With Color B and a H Hook

Line your peaks up like the week 5 picture

Start with a sl st to the 1st st on the righthand end point of the bottom piece(just like you would if your were adding another row to the strip). You will be working in each st and sp of the chevron strip.

Row 1. Ch 1, *sc in 8 sts/sps, sk st in valley, sc in next 8 sts/sps, (sc,ch1,sc) in ch 2 sp of peak*, repeat *to* across to end. = 178 sc & 9 ch 1 sp

Row 2. Ch 1, turn, sl st and [sc in st, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, trc in next 2 sts, dec trc over the next 2 sts, trc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, sl st in next st, sk ch 1 sp, sl st in next st], repeat [to] 8 more times, sc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, trc in next 2 sts, dec trc over the next 2 sts, trc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, sc & sl st in last st. 170 sts

Row 3. Ch 1 turn, sc in each st across. = 170 sc

FO

Repeat rows 1-3 on second strip, Do Not FO

Row 4. Joining the 2 strips… Line up stitches to match from row 3 on both pieces(wrong sides together), *sl st in BL st of the strip closest to you, then sl st in FL st of the adjacent strip on the far side from you*, repeat * to * across. Basically you are joining by sl st in the loops of each piece that are closest to each other, The bl is directly next to the fl.

FO

The back side will have more of a ridge in the center of this join.

Now you can lightly steam block it now to make it flat or wait until the end.

*Every now and then make sure each side of the peak and valley still have a total of 5 stitches each.

Most important… Have fun!
