Each winter we all have a great time making a one of a kind afghan by participating in my annual Winter Crochet~Along!!

In the past years, I have designed a mystery pattern that has turned out to be very popular… This year will not disappoint!!!  I have been working on a fun and unique design that we will make over a 12 week time frame.  I will post the material list on January 9th and then beginning on January 23 we will start our project!!

Whimsical Warmth Headband… Free Crochet Pattern!!

If you love easy Free Crochet Patterns that can be made as a One Skein Project,,, The Whimsical Warmth Headband is for you!!!  This is the 3rd pattern in the Whimsical Warmth Series… The Children’s Whimsical Warmth Beanie and the Ladies Whimsical Warmth Beanie  are the first two and I have a second version of the headband coming soon!!  So stay tuned!!

Materials:

Worsted Weight Yarn ~ 150 yards or less total. In this pattern I used Vanna’s Choice Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in Cranberry, Terra Cotta and Kelly Green!

Hook ~  H

Yarn Needle

Size:

21″ Around

Gauge:

2″ x 2″ = 7 sc x 8 rows

Stitches: 

yo ~ yarn over     sk ~ skip     sp ~ space     st ~ stitch     sl st ~ slip stitch     ch ~ chain     sc ~ single crochet     rev sc ~ reverse single crochet

dec ~ decrease (insert hook in st, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.)

Puff Stitch ~ (Yo, insert hook in designated space, pull up a loop) 4 times, yo and pull through all 9 loops on hook, ch 1. Make sure all loop you pull up are a double crochet height.

 

Instructions:

Ch 66, Join to beginning chain to form a ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st and in each st around. Join with sl st to beginning sc . = 66 sc.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in 1st st, ch 1, sk st, *sc in next st, ch 1, sk st* Repeat * * around. Join with sl st to 1st sc. = 33 sc & 33 ch-1 sps.

Rnd 3:  Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, Puff st in same sp, ch 1, *Puff st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1*, repeat * * around. Join to top of 1st Puff  st. = 33 Puff sts & 33 ch-1 sps.

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each ch-1 sp and the top of each Puff st around.  Join with sl st to beginning sc.  = 66 sc

Rnd 5 – 10:  Repeat Rnds 2-4 two more times. Do not finish off.

Edging:

Ch 1, rev sc around. Finish off.

Join to opposite side (beginning chain). Ch 1, rev sc around. Finish off.


 

Congratulations… you now have a Whimsical Warmth Headband!!!

If you would like to make this headband smaller or larger, it is in stitch increments of 2.  So you can add or subtract 2 beginning chains to adjust the size!!
