Materials:

.     Extra Bulky Yarn (5 or 6 by Yarns Standards) 150 yards- Different types and weights of yarn will produce varying results.

.     Size N Hook

.     Yarn Needle

Intermediate Crochet due to the flower being a little advanced, but beginners can make the flower easily by using the picture illustrations for guidance .  The Cowl is rated Easy Crochet

Stitches:

.     Ch-Chain     St-Stitch     Sl St-Slip Stitch     Sc-Single Crochet     DC- Double Crochet     HDC-Half Double Crochet     TRC-Triple Crochet

.

.     This pattern is worked in the round and no turning is necessary unless otherwise noted.

.

Ch 50-55 depending on your desired diameter, Join with Sl St to beginning Ch.  When joining chain, be very careful to keep the chain from twisting.  The joined Chain should be a continuous circle once joined, (See illustration below).

Row 1:     Ch 2 (Counts as first HDC), HDC next Ch and in each Ch around, Join to top of Ch 2. Make sure the work is not twisted (See illastration below)  50-55 HDC

Row 2-6 :     Ch 4 (Count as first TRC now and throughout), TRC in next St and in each St around, Join to top of Ch 4.      50-55 TRC

Row 7:         Ch 2, HDC around. Join to top of Ch 2.  Finish off, Weave in tails.

Flower:

Row 1: Ch 2, 6 Sc in 1st Ch, Join to 1st Sc. Flower is worked in the round unless otherwise noted.

Row 2: Ch 1,  Working in the Back Loops – 2 Sc in 1st St and each St around.  Do not Join. 12 Sc

.

Row 3: Continue working in the round in Back Loops (You will not be joining) . * 2 Sc in next St, Sc in next St,* 9 times, Sl St in next St.    21Sc+1 Sl St

.

You will now have a flat crochet circle with a spiral on top from the unworked Front Loops that will be the base of your flower. (See Illustration Below)

Row 4: The” Petal ” Base, You will creating Chain 3 spaces to make the petals in and Sc’s to secure the petals down, Similar to  making shell pattern-  Ch 1 Turn, (Working in both loops around the outside edge )  1 Sc in 2nd St from hook,* Ch 3, Sk next St, 3 Sc,* 5 times.  Ch 3, Do not turn, you are still working in the round in a spiral to the center of flower base now  in unworked loops of the flower base. (See Illustration”A” Below), *Sk St, 3 Sc, Ch 3*, * *Around to center of flower base. Sl St in last unworked loop. 12 Ch 3 spaces total. (See Illustration “B” Below)

Row 5: The Petals… Ch 1, Turn.  Sl St, Hdc, 3 DC in Ch 3 Space,* Sk Sc, Sl St in next Sc, Sk Sc, 5 Dc(7DC if using Bulky Weight 5 yarn standard) in next Ch 3 Space*, * *11 Times, Sl St on back of flower base approximately 1 inch away from last petal made to secure flower. 12 Petals.  Finish off leaving long tail for sewing flower to Cowl.

Cowls and Owls… Crochet Fun!!

The busy crochet season is here… Several custom orders and time to stock my shops…  Last night I finished up an adorable Owl Hat custom order….  It always feels good to get a work in progress done and off to where it is going….  I love making these Owl Hats, they are cute and easy to make… The pattern I use can be found at one of my favorite blogs… Repeat Crafter Me… She has tons of great projects!

Also off the hook and to my Etsy Shop... Another Soft and Stylish Cowl…  I now have the pattern worked out and should have this FREE Pattern ready to post in the next couple days…  It is also really beautiful and very quick to work up… This Cowl was made using a slightly less bulky yarn Rated a (5) in yarn thickness,,, The previous Cowl’s were made using a (6),,, I actually like the Cowl’s that had the thickest yarn… They were way more “plush”… But, this is beautiful and I would wear it this fall!!

To celebrate my daughter’s birthday (It’s Friday) I decided to post another free pattern for all my friends that join me at Beatrice Ryan Designs… I love these cute scarves, Perfect for any time of year, stylish and simple!

Chains and Flowers Crochet Scarf

Materials:

Stash Yarn – Fingering, Dk, or Worsted your choice

Crochet Hook – G or H Your choice according to the yarn you choose

Stitches:   

Dc-Double Crochet     Sl St-Slip Stitch     Ch-Chain     Sp-Space

 

Scarf Length 60″ or more, Your choice depending on how many times you want to wrap it around.


Instructions:

Chain 23 with a medium even tension.

1. Turn,* 5 Dc in 2nd chain from hook (Make sure to place your  Dc stitches around 2 of  the 3 strands of the chain stitch so the center of the flower doesn’t stretch to out large), Sl St in same ch st, 5 Dc in same ch st, Sl St in same ch st, 3 Dc in same chain (This creates 1/2 of the flower), Chain 22* Repeat (**)several times until scarf is desired length.

 

2. At the end of the chain. turn-working your way back along other side of chain ,*5 Dc in 2nd Ch from hook, Sl St in same chain* Repeat * *5 times,  Sl St to the base of first Dc (Full Flower Formed), **Chain 17 or 18 to equal same length as previous Chain length, Sl St in top of 3rd Dc in partial flower, 2Dc in center of flower round, * Sl St in Same Sp, 5 Dc in same Sp* 2 times, Sl St in base of 1st Dc of flower to complete flower**. Repeat( **  **) until you reach end of chain . ^Sl St in Last ch,  5 Dc in same sp, Sl St in same Sp^, repeat ^^ 5 times. Join with Sl St to base of 1st Dc. Finish off, weave in ends.

Lightly steam flowers to flatten and gently pull on chains to even the tension of the scarf.
