Scraptastic Ottoman… Free Crochet Pattern!!



Scraptastic Ottoman is a super easy and fun home accessory you can make in not time at all… Yarn, Filling and a Hook and you are all set to make this colorful and comfortable foot rest!!

Supplies:

  • Yarn~ 3000 yards total worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Super Save in the following: A. Pool(blue) B. Paddy Green C. Carrot D. Amethyst
  • Hook ~ N
  • Nylon Draw String Laundry Bag 30″ x 40″
  • Biggie Bean Bag Filler
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Sewing Needle and Thread

Size:

19″ tall x 61″ around x 17″ across

Stitches:

  • Ch – Chain
  • St – Stitch
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Bl – Back Loop
  • Bp – Back Post
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Dec – Decrease

Instructions:

*Note, you will be working with 4 strands of yarn at a time

*For the top, you will be changing out colors by dropping once color and picking up strands of other colors

Holding colors A, B, C & D

Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 6 sc

Round 2: ch 1, 2 blsc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 12 blsc

Round 3: Ch 1, blsc in 1st 2 sts, 2 blsc in next st, * blsc in next 2 sts, 2 blsc in next st*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 18 blsc

Drop strand of color B and pick up second strand of color A

Round 4: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 3 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 3 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 24 blsc

Round 5: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 4 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 4 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 36 blsc

Round 6: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 5 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 5 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 42 blsc

Drop strand of color C and pick up 2nd strand of color D

Round 7: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 6 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 6 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 48 blsc

Round 8: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 7 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 7 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 54 blsc

Round 9: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 8 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 8 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 60 blsc

Drop 1 strand of color A and pick up 1 strand of color B

Round 10: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 9 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 9 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 66 blsc

Round 11: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 10 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 10 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 72 blsc

Round 12: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 11 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 11 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 78 blsc

Drop one strand of color A and pick up one strand of color B

Round 13: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 12 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 12 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 84 blsc

Round 14: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 13 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 13 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 90 blsc

Round 15: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 14 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 14 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 96 blsc

Drop one strand of color B and pick up one strand of color C

Round 16: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 15 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 16 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 102 blsc

Round 17: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 16 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 16 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 108 blsc

Round 18: Ch 1, 2 blsc in 1st st, blsc in next 17 sts, *2 blsc in next st, blsc in next 17 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 114 blsc

Drop one strand of color D and pick up one strand of color A (you should now have A,B,C & D)

Round 19: Ch 1, bpsc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 114 bpsc

Rounds 20-48: Ch 1, blsc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 114 blsc

Round 49: Ch 1, bpsc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 114 bpsc

Round 50: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 17 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 17 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =108 blsc

Round 51: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 16 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 16 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =102 blsc

Round 52: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 15 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 15 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =96 blsc

Round 53: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 14 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 14 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =90 blsc

Round 53: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 12 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 12 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =78 blsc

Round 54: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 11 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 11 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =72 blsc

Round 55: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 10 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 10 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =66 blsc

Now you will put the nylon laundry bag into the ottoman, fill it with the large bean bag fill. You can fill it with the whole bag or adjust to the amount you like. The nylon laundry bag does not to be completely full, my bag had 2″-3″ left unfilled. Pull the drawstring tight and sew the drawn up section together with needle and thread to secure it.

Round 56: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 9 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 9 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =60 blsc

Round 57: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 8 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 8 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =54 blsc

Round 58: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 7 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 7 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =48 blsc

Round 59: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 6 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 6 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =42 blsc

Round 60: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 5 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 5 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =36 blsc

Round 61: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 4 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 4 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =30 blsc

Round 62: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 3 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 3 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =24 blsc

Round 63: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 2 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 17 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =18 blsc

Round 63: Ch 1, dec blsc over the 1st 2 sts, blsc in next 1 sts,*dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 1 sts*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. =12 blsc

Round 64: Dec blsc 6 times, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 6 blsc

Finish off leaving a 10″ tail. Using a yarn needle, weave the tail in and out of the 6 sts and draw it closed. Secure end

Instructions:

*This week we will be working on the side edge using one of my favorite stitches… Moss Stitch. Super easy and quick!

Continuing with Color F

Row 144: Ch 1, turn working down the side edge, 2 sc in 1st sc of side row, *ch 1, sk 1, sc in next st*, repeat *to* across, sc in last sc of side row. =107sc & 104 ch 1. *Mark this side as your right side for future reference*

Finish off

Join Color A with sl st where you FO

Row 145: Ch 1, turn, sc in st, *ch 1, sk 1, sc in ch 1*, repeat *to* across ending with ch 1, sk st, sc in last st. = 106 sc & 105 ch 1

Finish Off

Join Color B with sl st where you FO

Row 146: Ch 1, turn, sc in st, *sc in ch 1, ch 1, sk st*, repeat *to* across ending with sc in ch 1, sc in last st. = 107 sc & 104 ch 1

  • Dec Sc ~ Decrease Single Crochet *Insert hook in next st, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, Yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook*
  • Sc ~ Single Crochet
  • Blsc ~ Back Loop Single Crochet
  • Dc ~ Double Crochet
  • Picot ~ Sc in st, ch 3, sl st in base of sc just made

Instructions:

**Tip ~ This week you will be doing the opposite end of the afghan ~ Almost exactly like last week, then up the side. Because it is the opposite end, the peaks and valleys are opposite of the other end… This will make the work a bit different in counts and the way you do the first row. Take your time with the first row of this end.. You are working in the beginning chain stitches, so it is slightly tricky. The peak and valley stitches my be a bit hard to identify. Just do your best if you don’t see the exact stitches and line up the peak and valley stitches… Once done with this initial row, the rest is a piece of cake.!!!

Continuing with Color F

Row 137: Ch 1, turn and work in the beginning chains of the project at the bottom edge of the afghan, 2 blsc in st, *blsc in next 9 sts, sk 2, blsc in next 9 sts, 3 blsc in next st*, repeat *to* 9 more times, blsc in next 9 sts, sk 2, blsc in next 9 sts, 2 blsc in last ch st. = 232 blsc

Row 138: Ch 1, turn, 2 blsc in st, *blsc in next 9 sts, sk 2, blsc in next 9 sts, 3 blsc in next st*, repeat *to* 9 more times, blsc in next 9 sts, sk 2, blsc in next 9 sts, 2 blsc in last st. = 232 blsc

Row 139: Ch 3, turn, bldc in same st, bldc in next 9 sts, sk 3(valley), *3 bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 3, 3 bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 2, bldc in next st, 3bldc in next st(peak), bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 2, 3 bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 3, 3 bldc in next st, sk 4*, repeat *to* 8 more times, 3 bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 3, 3 bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 2, bldc in next st, 3 bldc in next st, bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 2, 3 bldc in next st, ch 1, sk 3, 3 bldc in next st, sk 3, bldc in next 9 sts, 2 bldc in last st. = 192 bldc, 40 ch 1

Rows 140-141: Repeat row 138

Row 142: Ch 1, turn, 3 picot in st, *sc in next 9 sts, sk 2, sc in next 9 sts, 3 picot in next st*, repeat *to* 10 more times, ch 1, (working down side) sc 6 sts evenly down the last 6 rows just made(see pic below), sl st to the last st(color F) from row 136(this is where you turned and started row 137). = 12 3picot groups, 204 sc & 1-ch 1

Finish off

Working down the opposite side, Join color F at base of the 1st sc picot st of row 142. This will be the opposite side of where you just finished off

Row 143: Ch 1, sc 210 sts evenly down the side of rows to the bottom edge until you reach the last stitch of row 135(picot row) the 210th st will be in the side of the last row. *you are just doing 210 sc evenly down the opposite side from top to bottom*

Do not finish off

Size: With out blocking 49″ x 63″ at the end of week 7
