Welcome back! Thank you for stopping by and checking out this Mystery Afghan CAL, I hope you are having a great time… If you are just joining in now, Welcome! As you saw last week, this is a traditional chevron pattern and it has some twists and turns… During this CAL, hopefully you will learn some new stitches and/or advance your crochet ability!!

Each week I will post a easy section for you to complete, and in 12 weeks… You will have a fun, whimsical afghan!

There are a few prizes involved in this years 2020 Winter Mystery Afghan CAL..

Grand Prize – There will be a $50 Amazon Gift Card for 1 lucky winner at the end of the CAL. The grand prize will be drawn on Sunday May 24th 2020. To be eligible, you must email a picture and permission by Friday May 22nd, 2020 to [email protected] showing your completed project. Entries will be numbered by the order they arrive and the number will be drawn using a random number generator.

Here is my color line up… You can choose your colorway to be in any order you like… The way my eye liked my colors was from lightest to darkest… A~White B~Stone C~Sweet Pink D~Light Gray E~Cameo F~Pewter

Stitches:

  • St ~ Stitch
  • Sl St ~ Slip Stitch
  • Sk ~ Skip
  • Ch ~ Chain
  • Bl ~ Back Loop
  • Dec Sc ~ Decrease Single Crochet *Insert hook in next st, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, pull up loop, Yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook*
  • Sc ~ Single Crochet
  • Blsc ~ Back Loop Single Crochet
  • Dc ~ Double Crochet
  • V St – In designated stitch – Dc, ch 1, Dc

Instructions:

**Each week you will be repeating the blsc row 3 several times(in the color indicated for the row repeat) … Here it is so you don’t have to go back to week 1…

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, dec blsc over the next 2 sts, blsc in next 8 sts, *3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 9 sts, sk 2 sts, blsc in next 9 sts*, repeat *to* 9 more times, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 8 sts, dec blsc over the last 2 sts. =231 blsc

Join color E in bl with sl st to end of row 39

Rows 40-49: Repeat row 3

Finish Off

Join in bl color F with sl st to end of row 49

Rows 50-53: Repeat row 3

Row 54: Ch 4(counts as dc + ch 1), turn, bldc in next st, sk 2 sts, bl V st in next st, sk 2 sts, bl V st in next st, sk 2 sts, {3 bldc in next st, *sk 2 sts, bl V st in next st*, repeat *to* 5 more times, sk 2 sts}, repeat {to} 9 more times, 3 bldc in next st, sk 2 sts, bl V st in next st, sk 2 sts, bl V st in next st, sk 2, bl dc in next st, ch 1, bldc in last st. = 37 – dc, 2 – ch1 & 64 V sts

**Tip for row 55, Make sure to work in the ch and dc in the beginning and end of the previous row to get proper st count

Rows 55-58: Repeat row 3 Finish off

** The approx. length at the end of this week is 23″ laid flat not stretched

I am happy, sad and excited all in one… This years Crochet with Me!! Mystery Afghan CAL has flown by! I love all the years and my collection of 6 afghans… But this may be my favorite! I love seeing all the pictures of your progress in our Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL Facebook Group! So many amazing color choices!

If you are not finished yet or just starting, I love that you are joining in the fun.. I hope all of you will send me your finished photos for my Grand Finale Post on April 20th!! So here is the skinny on this project.. It is 12 weeks of crocheting, each weeks link is posted for safe keeping in the Crochet with Me!! tab at the top of the page…  You start with the Material List  .. Lots of great details about how the CAL works and the great Grand Prize Giveaway from our friends at Red Heart Yarns!!

Well Let’s get started with the final week…

This weeks stitches:

This week is super easy,, one round and blocking.. That’s it!

Finished size after blocking… 72″ x 84″

You will be using your I hook

Round 79: (Hdc,dc,hdc) in next st, sl st in next 2 sts, (hdc,dc,hdc) in next st, sl st in next 3 sts, (hdc,dc,trc,dc,hdc) in next st(corner), sl st in next 3 sts, *(hdc,dc,hdc) in next st, sl st in next 2 sts*, repeat *to* 86 more times, sl st in next st, (hdc,dc,trc,dc,hdc) in next st, sl st in next 3 sts, repeat *to* 76 times, sl st in next st, (hdc,dc,trc,dc,hdc) in next st, sls st in next 3 sts, repeat *to* 87 times, sl st in next st, (hdc,dc,trc,dc,hdc) in next st, sl st in next 3 sts, repeat * to* 73 times, (hdc,dc,hdc) in next st, sl st in last st, join with sl st to beginning sl st. = 326 (hdc,dc,hdc), 4 (hdc,dc,trc,dc,hdc) and 668 sl sts

That is it.. you have now completed the 2019 Crochet with Me!! Mystery Afghan CAL.. Congratulations!!!

The final step is blocking.. We have talked about this in our group,, your project may be a little wavy, puckered or something.. So blocking will solve this. Two ways to block..

Wet Method-Get your afghan damp by spraying it lightly with water on both sides… lay it out and carefully pull it into shape, pin it into place if you like or if you are on carpet or a bed, it may stay in place.. Let it dry and you are done…

Steam method (this is what I do), lay your project out and shape it as much as possible.. lightly steam it and carefully pull it into shape… Be very careful not to over heat or you will ruin the yarn. Let it cool and your are done!

I love afghans! My home is filled with them.. Of course 5 of them are the previous Crochet with Me Mystery Afghans… This will make #6! This is a special week, not only are we over half way, but this is the Amazing Grace Week… If you don’t know about my Amazing Grace series.. It is a set of designs dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness and my dearest friend Sandra Gilb! Click here to read more and see the patterns.. These patterns all have the same stitch pattern making up the bulk of the design.. So this week we will be doing the Amazing Grace Stitch Pattern..
