Tea Time Placemat is a quick and fun project to add color to your home!!  Simple Double Crochet and Single Crochet makes this free pattern have a unique texture… Great gift idea too!!


Materials:

Worsted weight yarn ~ 200 yards main color 25 yards of accent color per placemat.  Cotton yarn was used in this project, but Acrylic yarn would work great too!

Hook ~ I

Size:

Approximately 16 1/2″ x 12 1/2″

Stitches:

Sk ~ Skip      St ~ Stitch     Sl St ~ Slip Stitch     Ch ~ Chain     Sc ~ Single Crochet     Dc ~ Double Crochet

Instructions:

With main color~

Ch 45

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 44 sts

Row 2:  Ch 1, turn, sk 1st st, (sc, dc) in next st, * sk st, (sc, dc) in next st*, repeat * * across. =44 sts

Row 3:  Ch 1, turn, (sc,dc) in each sc across, skipping all the dc’s. =44 sts

Rows 4-29:  Repeat Row 3

Row 30:  Ch 1, turn, sc across. = 44 sts

Edging:

Round 1:  2 sc in same st as last st of row 30(1st corner), sc 29 sts evenly down the side of the rows, 2 sc in same st as 1st st of  beginning of placemat row 1(2nd corner), join with sl st to the 1st st of row 1. Finish off.

Round 2:  Join with sl st in the same space as the last st of row 1(44th st), 2 sc in same st(3rd corner), sc 29 sts evenly up the side of rows, 2 sc in same space as the  1st st of row 30, join with sl st to 1st st of top of placemat(4th corner).=154 sts

Round 3:  Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, 3 sc in next st(1st corner), sc in next 31 sts, 3 sc in next st(2nd corner), sc in next 22 sts, 2 sc in next st(increase is needed to end with odd number of sts), sc in next 21 sts, 3 sc in next st(3rd corner) sc in next 31 sts, 3 sc in next st(4th corner), sc in next 21, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 21 sts, join to beginning sc. =164 sts

Round 4:  Ch 3, turn, *sk st, sc in next st, ch 3*, repeat * * 24 times, sc in same st(1st corner), <ch 3, sk st, sc in next st>, repeat < > 17 times, ch 3, sc in same st(2nd corner), repeat < > 24 times, ch 3, sc in same st(3rd corner), repeat < > 17 times, ch 3, sc in same st(4th corner), ch 3, sk st, join to beginning st. = 86 ch3 sps

Change to accent color

Round 5:  Join with sl st in any corner ch3 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, {dc in next sc, *sc in next ch 3 sp, dc in next sc*, repeat * * across to next ch3 corner sp, 3 sc in  corner ch3 sp}, repeat { } 4 times, finishing with only 2 sc in last corner, join with sl st to 1st sc in the same corner st. = 180 sts   Finish Off.

Change back to main color

Round 6:  Join with sl st in top left center corner st. Ch 1, 2 sc in same st(1st corner), sc in next 37 sts, 2 sc in  next st(2nd corner), sc in next 49 sts, 2 sc in next st(3rd corner), sc in next 37 sts, 2 sc in next st(4th corner), sc in last 49 sts. Join with sl st to beginning. Finish off. =184 sts

Northwest Beaches Tote Bag is an easy free crochet pattern, that works up quickly!!  The colors and style of this tote bag reminds me of the far northern beaches of California and Oregon…. Yellow sunshine, Blue skies, Green coastal grass!  Fill it up with your beach necessities, farmers market purchases or your workout clothes for the gym!!  I hope you enjoy my latest Free Crochet Pattern!!


Materials:

Yarn ~ Deborah Norville Everyday Soft Worsted Weight, approximately 500 yards. (Pictured here in Happy Baby) I used approximately 2 1/2 skeins.

St ~ Stitch      Sk ~ Skip     Bl – Back Loop     Ch ~ Chain     Sl St ~ Slip Stitch     Dec ~ Decrease       Sc ~ Single Crochet     Hdc ~ Half Double Crochet   Dc ~ Double Crochet


Instructions:

Bottom

Holding 2 strands of yarn together ch 41

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 40 sc

Rows 2-14: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 40 sc

Row 15:  Ch 1, sc 2 more sts in same st(1st corner), sc 12 evenly across side rows, 3 sc in next st(2nd corner), sc in next 38 sts, 3 sc in next st(3rd corner), sc 12 evenly up side rows, 2 sc in same st as 1st st of the top row(4th corner). leave remaining unworked, Join with sl st. = 112 sc

Finish off.

Sides and Handle

Working with 1 strand of yarn

Round 1: Join in Bl of any center corner st, ch1, Bl sc in each st around, Join with sl st. = 112 sc

Rounds 2-5:  Ch 2(counts as hdc now and throughout), hdc around, join with sl st. = 112 hdc

*Even rounds will now be your right side*

Round 6:  Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), dc in next st, sk 2 sts, 5 dc(shell made) in next st, sk 2 sts, *dc in next 3 sts, sk 2 sts, 5dc shell in next st, sk 2 sts*, repeat * * 12 more times, dc in last st, join with sl st. = 14 5dc shells and 42 dc

Round 7:  Ch 3, turn, dc in next st, sk 2 sts, 5dc shell in next st,*sk 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts, sk 2 sts, 5dc shell in next st*, repeat * * around, sk 2, dc in last st, join with sl st. = 14 5dc shells and  42 dc

Rounds 8-25: Repeat round 7

Round 26: Ch 2, turn, hdc in next st, sc in next 5 sts(shell sts), *hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next 5 sts*, repeat * * around, hdc in last st, join with sl st.= 70 sc and 42 hdc

Round 27: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st. = 112 sc

Round 28:  Ch 1, turn, *sc in next 6 sts, dec over next 2 sts*, repeat * * around, join with sl st. = 98 sc

Round 29: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st. = 98 sc

Round 30:  Ch 1, turn, *sc in next 5 sts, dec over next 2 sts*, repeat * * around, join with st st. =84 sc

Round 31:  Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st. = 84 sc

Round 32: Sl st in next 3 sts, ch 1, turn, sc in next 22 sts, ch 44, sk 20 sts, sc in next 22 sts, ch 45, sk next 20 sts, Join to 1st sc with sl st. *Be very careful not to twist the chains when crocheting.

Round 33:  Ch 1, turn, sc in 45 chains, sc in next 22 sts, sc in next 45 chains, sc in last 22 sts, join with sl st. = 134 sc

Rounds 34-39: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st. = 134

Finish off and weave in ends.

If you were a fan of my Rainbow Dash Baby Blanket, you will love making this fun, bright Rainbow Dash Crochet Tote Bag!! Very repetitive stitching makes this tote bag easy to make and the texture makes it pop… Great as a Market Bag, Beach Bag or Project Bag too!!

Another great feature is,,, you can use up your scrap yarn stash and make it in many different color combos!!


Materials:

Worsted Weight Yarn ~ Approximately 600 yards in various colors. You will need slightly more of your main color that your other color choices.

I recommend using multiple colors 3+.  I used Red Heart Super Saver in Glowworm, Bright Yellow, Flame, Pretty in Pink, Hot Red(My main color) and Turqua!

Stitches:

Ch ~ Chain     St ~ Stitch     Sl St ~ Slip Stitch     Sc ~ Single Crochet     Dc ~ Double Crochet     FLSc ~ Front Loop Single Crochet     FPTrc ~ Front Post Treble Crochet      Reverse Single Crochet

Gauge:

2″ x 2″ = 8 Sc x 8 rows

You can adjust the bag to your own sizing by changing the hook size or changing the amount of rows.  It is a 2 stitch repeat.

Base: Using your main color

Round 1:  Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join with sl st to beginning. = 12 sc

Round 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning. = 24 sc

Round 3: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st to beginning. = 24 sc

Round 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in next st, * 2 sc in next st, sc in next st*, repeat * * around, join with sl st to beginning. =36 sc

Round 5: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st to beginning. =36 sc

Round 6: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 2 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts*, repeat* * around, join with sl st to beginning. = 48 sc

Bag 

*Even rounds will be the wrong side and odd rounds will be the right side.

*Color changes are every 2 rounds

Round 14: Working in front loops, ch 3(counts as dc now and through out), turn, FLdc around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 84 sts. This is the wrong side of your bag and will be the inside when complete.

Round 15: Change color by joining to any dc. Ch 1, turn(to right side), sc in same as joining, FPTrc in next st, *sc in next st, FPTrc in next st*, repeat * * around, join with sl st to beginning. = = 42 sc & 42 FPTrc

Round 16: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning. = 84 sts

Round 17: Change color -Turn, Ch 1, Sc in 1st Dc, *FPTrc in next stitch 2 rows below(Around the FPtrc of Row 1 directly below, See photo tutorial), Sk St(Your FPTrc is taking up this stitch below so you need to skip this stitch to avoid extra stitches, See photo tutorial), Sc in next stitch(In top of round 16)*. Repeat * * around to end. =42 Sc & 42 FPTrc

Round 18: Round 16: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning. = 84 sts

Round 19 -50: Repeat rounds 15 & 16 Sixteen times going around the FPTrc two rows below for round 15. Change color each repeat of rounds 15 & 16. When joining the new color join in a dc from round 16 directly above a sc from round 15, this will line your stitches up so you do your FPTrc in the correct placement.

Round 51: Using main color, ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, join with sl st to beginning. =84 sts

Round 52: Ch 3, do not turn (even rows will now be on the right side), dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, sk st, *dc in next 3 sts, ch 1, sk st*, repeat * * around, join with sl st to beginning. = 63 dc & 21 ch 1 spaces

Round 53 & 54: Ch 1, turn, sc around, join with sl st to beginning. = 84 sc

Handle

Working with 2 strands of main color yarn for sturdiness(you can use 1 strand if preferred), join second strand

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 5 sts. = 5 sc

Row 2-56: Ch 1, turn, sc across. = 5 sc

Finish off leaving long tail for sewing.

Skip next 37 sts from 5th st of handle row 1, sew handle in place in next 5 sts. Leave the 2nd section of 37 sts unworked.

Edging

Join main color yarn with sl st to any st in top of bag on either side of handle.

Ch 1, Reverse Sc around the top of bag and working evenly in side rows of handle. Join with sl st to beginning. finish off = approx. 93 reverse sc

Repeat on 2nd side of handle and bag.

Draw String

Using 4 strands of yarn (I used 4 different colors), ch a 46″ length drawstring – leaving 3″ of yarn tails at each side of drawstring. Weave drawstring in and out of ch 1 spaces of Round 52.
