Some tips and housekeeping

Although the border is a mystery, if you are going to follow along and make that border, the tails for changing colors on both sides don’t need to be woven in.

The project should be 48″ x 72″ when finished and blocked with the designed border.

If you are worried about the size, make sure to check your gauge.

This is written in US terms

You will use the full cake of yarn for this section or approx 15″ from top peak to a bottom peak

*Every now and then make sure each side of the peak and valley still have a total of 5 stitches each.

Most important… Have fun!

Stitches used this week

Section 1 is the Chevron Pattern in the Moss or Linen Stitch in Color A – I am using Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cake in Latte… You can use a solid, self-striping or scrapghan

  • Ch – Chain
  • St – Stitch
  • Sp – Space
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Ch -Chain
  • Dec Sc – Decrease Single Crochet (Insert hook in 1st st/sp, draw up loop, insert hook in 2nd st/sp, draw up loop, yo and draw thru all 3 loops on hook

Gauge

Linen or Moss Stitch Chevron

4″ x 4″ = 10 rows x 20 chs/sts which is one full peak

Let’s Crochet!!!

** I modified the first row and chain count to make it more clear and correct on 2-20-26)

With Color A Ch 189

Row 1: [(Sc(*first sc of row is in 2nd ch from hook),ch1,sk ch) 4 times, (sc,ch2,sc) in next ch(this is the peak), (ch1,sk ch,sc in next ch) 4 times, sk 2 chs(this is the valley)], repeat [to] across 10 times to the end, you will end with a sc in the last ch. = 10 peaks & 10 valleys (10 sc, 9 ch 1 & 1-ch 2 per peak/valley)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, dec sc over 1st st and ch 1 sp, (ch1, sk st, sc in next ch 1 sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk st [(sc,ch2,sc) in peak ch 2 sp, (ch1,sk st, sc in next ch 1 sp) 4 times, sk 2 valley sts, (sc in sp, ch 1,sk st) 4 times], repeat [to] across to the last peak, (sc,ch2,sc) in peak ch 2 sp, (ch 1,sk st,sc in next sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk st, dec sc in last sp & st 10 peak/valley ( 8sc, 10 sc & 1 ch 2 for each peak/valley)

Rows 3-36ish – Repeat row 2 until you run out of the yarn in the Yarn Cake or until it is approx. 15″ Tip of Top peak to tip of the Bottom Peak.

This year will be a fun project using standard stitches to make this afghan have texture and and a fun look depending on your choice of yarns!

You can use self-striping yarn, ombre yarn, one color, scrapghan style… Whatever you would like!

About the yarn choices

The pattern will be written to use worsted weight yarn. Below is what I will be using, but you can choose to use your favorite color or style of look by changing up the colors and how many you use! This would be great as a scrapghan!

Color A – Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cakes in the color Latte – 4 cakes 407 yards each

Color B – Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn in Putty – 4 skeins 285 each

Hook I for the base and H for smaller sections.or your size hook to obtain gauge which will be posted next week

The pattern is designed in sections and when making the main sections with Color A, it is designed to use 1 full skein per section. Color B will be accent color in between sections and the border color.

Afghan Sizing

The project should be 48″ x 72″ when finished and blocked with the designed border. You can choose to leave this project without a border or design your own if you don’t like the style we will make. The style of the border will be revealed in full prior to you making it.
