Steel Ridge Beanie is a fun easy shell and chain pattern beanie… Pick 2 of your favorite colors and make one today!! Perfect for a cool afternoon or chilly evening.

Materials:

200 yards  total ~ 2 Colors of Lion Brand Yarn Heartland Worsted Weight Yarn. Shown here in Great Smokey Mountains and Glacier Bay

K Hook

Scissors

Stitches:

St ~ Stitch      Ch ~ Chain      Sl St ~ Slip Stitch     Sk ~ Skip     Sc ~ Single Crochet     Hdc ~ Half Double Crochet      Dc ~ Double Crochet      FP ~ Front Post      BP ~ Back Post

Gauge:

6 dc x 3 rows

Hat Size:

22″ around un-stretched 11″ tall(not including pom pom)

Tips:

*You will be working in the round

*Use even, slightly loose tension

*Using a darker color and a lighter color will show off the pattern

*It is easiest to carry your yarn up each round as you change color


Instructions:

Color A ~ Great Smokey Mountain   Color B ~ Glacier Bay

Using Color A Chain 61

Round 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. =60 sc

Carefully join with out twisting, you will secure the project when you make the brim

Round 2:  Ch 1, sc in same st, sk 2 sts, 5dc(shell) in next st, sk 2 sts, *sc in next st, sk 2 sts, 5dc in next st, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* around, Join with sl st to beginning. = 10 5dc shells & 10 sc

Change to Color B

Round 3:  Join yarn in same sc as joining last round. Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 6, sk 5dc shell, sc in next sc*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 10 ch6 & 10 sc

Change to Color A

Round 4:  Join yarn in same st as joining last round.  Ch 3(counts as dc now and through out), 4 dc in same st, * sc around ch6 from previous round and into 3rd dc of 5dc shell in round below(see picture at bottom), 5dc shell in next sc*, repeat *to*  around, sc around last ch6 into the 3rd dc of 5dc shell. Join to top of beginning ch 3. = 10 5dc shells & 10 sc

Rounds 5-26:  Repeat rounds 3 & 4

Finish off leaving long tail for securing top of beanie.

Weave tail in and out of each middle dc of 5dc shells. Draw closed and secure.

Crochet with Me Week 4 Stitches

Brim

Join Color A in any st of bottom of beanie

Round 1:  Sc 60 sts evenly around the bottom of the beanie. Join with sl st to beginning sc

Round 2:  Ch 2(counts as hdc now and throughout), hdc in each st around. Join with sl st around the top of beginning ch 2. = 60 hdc

Round 3-5:  Ch 2, bphdc around next st,* fphdc around next st, bphdc around next st*, repeat *to* around. Join around top of beginning ch 2.

Finish off and weave in ends.

*Optional* Make a Pom Pom and secure it to the top of your new Steel Ridge Beanie

Amazing Grace Saturday Super Scarf… This fun, whimsical version of a Super Scarf is made up the standard stitching in all of my Amazing Grace Free Crochet Patterns along with a fun Quadruple Treble Crochet for an extra long stitch to make this pattern have plenty of movement!!  This is the 23rd Amazing Grace Free Crochet Pattern that is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness and my dearest friend Sandy Gilb.  To read more about this series, click on the Amazing Grace tab at the top of the page!!

This is a perfect gift for Christmas, Birthdays or for a friend who is suffering from a traumatic life event…  Using fun, self stripped yarn, this project comes together quickly and with dress up any wardrobe!!

Materials

Yarn ~ 750  yards fingering weight yarn.

6″ wide x 112″ long

Stitches

St ~ Stitch     Ch ~ Chain     Sk ~ Skip     Sc ~ Single Crochet     Dc ~ Double Crochet

QuadTrc ~ Quadruple Treble Crochet – Yarn over hook 5 times, insert hook in st, *draw up loop, pull through 2 loops*, repeat *to* 6 times. Click here to see a video on extra tall stitches…

Instructions

Ch 36

Row 1:  Sc in second ch from hook and each across. = 35 sc

Row 2:  Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, sk st, (sc,ch2,sc) in next st, *sk 2 sts, (sc,ch2,sc), in next st*, repeat *to* 9 more times, sk 1 st, sc in last st. = 2 sc & 11 (sc,ch2,sc)

Row 3:  Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), turn, 3dc in each ch 2 sp across, dc in last st. = 11 3dc shells & 2dc

Rows 4-29: Repeat rows 2 & 3

Row 30:  Ch 6(counts as QuadTrc now and throughout), turn, QuadTrc in each st across. = 35 QuadTrc

Rows 31-59:  Repeat rows 2-30

Repeat rows 2-30 until you reach your desired length ending with row 29. I made my project 203 rows.

Edging (both ends)

Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, *ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in next st*, repeat across to end. =11 ch 3 & 12 sc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, *7dc in next ch 3 sp, sc in next sc*, repeat *to* across = 77 dc & 12 sc

Finish off and repeat edging on opposite end.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and if you have followed me very long, you know my passion and heart towards this cause.  In 2007, I lost my dearest friend Sandra Gilb to breast cancer…. With each Amazing Grace Pattern, they are dedicated to those who are suffering, recovering and taking care of those who are battling cancer or other dramatic life events!  Please pay it forward by using this free pattern and making and gifting an item to someone in need, while making some for yourself.


Amazing Grace Baby Cocoon is the 19th pattern in this series, see all of them in the Amazing Grace patterns in the tab at the top of the page… What a lovely gift this will make for any beautiful little angel!!  And if you know someone with an infant who is suffering from illness or displacement, this would be a great way of  paying it forward!! *You will be working in the round

*The easiest way to do the color changing in this pattern is to carry the colors up as you go and not cut the yarn each round


Instructions ~

Begin with a Magic Circle

With Color A

Round 1:  Ch 2(counts as hdc now and throughout) in center of magic circle, 9 more hdc in center of space. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 10 hdc

Round 2:  Ch 2, hdc in same st,  2 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 20 hdc

Round 3:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. =30 hdc

Round 4:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 40 hdc

Round 5:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 50 hdc

Round 6:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 4 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 60 hdc

Round 7:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 5 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 70 hdc

Round 8:  Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 6 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 6 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 80 hdc

Round 12:  Ch 2, Hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 2. = 108 hdc

Change to Color B

Round 13:  Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same st, sk 2 sts, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next st, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to beginning. = 36 (sc, ch 2, sc)

Change to Color C

Round 14:  Join with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, *3 dc in next ch2 sp*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 36 3dc shells

Change to Color B

Round 15:  Join with sl st in middle st of 3dc shell, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same st, sk 2 sts, *(sc, ch 2, sc), sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 36 (sc, ch 2, sc)

Change to Color A

Round 16:  Join with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, *3 dc in next ch2 sp*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 36 3dc shells

Change to Color B

Change to Color C

Round 18:  Join with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, *3 dc in next ch2 sp*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 36 3dc shells

Change to Color B

Round 19:  Join with sl st in middle st of 3dc shell, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same st, sk 2 sts, *(sc, ch 2, sc), sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 36 (sc, ch 2, sc)

Rounds 20-43: Repeat the same sequence of rounds 16-19 including color changes.

Change to Color A

Round 44:  Join with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, *3 dc in next ch2 sp*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 36 3dc shells

Round 45:  Ch 1, sc around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 108 sc

Change to Color C

Round 46: Ch 1, sc around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 108 sc

Change to Color B

Round 47:  Ch 1, sc around. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 108 sc

Change to Color C
